When you have business to handle, you move different.
When you have business to handle, you move different.
According to our text, Mary and Joseph once they found that Jesus was not in the group headed back to Jerusalem where it took them 3 days to find Jesus. The first day traveling back to Jerusalem, and 2 days searching for him. I had to ask myself, why was it that it took them so long to find Jesus. The text doesn’t say where they looked up to the time that they found him in the Temple, but I develop a hypothesis, or educated guess, in my spirit. What if the reason why it took so long for them to find Jesus is because they were looking where they had seen him before. Remember they had assumed that he was with his friends or other family members in the caravan on the way back to Nazareth. So I believe that they went back to Jerusalem and searched where they had seen him before. Yet he was not there.
May I submit to you that God is looking for us to be the same way. We ought not be able to be so easily tracked, we ought to move different. If they would have found Jesus quickly coming back into Jerusalem that means he wouldn’t have moved very much. The church should not be the same way. We ought to be constantly moving, adjusting, developing, altering, modifying, redoing, refashioning, revamping, revising, reworking, inspiring, activating, motivating, and stimulating. How is it that folk can leave the church going to college, stay gone 20 years, come back and everything is still the same. The problem that I find that churches be in is that we are so easily found, meaning we are not moving. I’m not referring to our locations, our social media platforms, or even our personal locations, I am referring to our spiritual placement. We come to church have church, bible study, Sunday School, and expect that our churches are going to burst at the seams. Yes I know and agree that the word is the most important part of worshipping God, but even in our worshipping God we ought to be moving, but moving different. Folk may call you acting funny, but just tell them I’m moving different. I have business to handle, I’m on assignment now and I can’t move like everyone else because I am handling business.
Isaiah 43:18-19a ““Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”
I must move different now because God is calling me to embrace this new thing, this assignment
When you have business to handle, you have confident in what is inside of you.
When you have business to handle, you have confident in what is inside of you.
The text says that when they find him in the the temple, he is seated among the teachers, asking them questions. As they were asking questions they found themselves amazed by his understanding and his answers. They were trying to figure out how is it that this 12 year old boy is able to converse with them in this manner and have this level of understanding.See they did not realize who they were talking to. That this little boy was more than just a little boy. They did not realize that this was the Christ, Son of the Living God. They did not realize that this was God in the flesh. They did not realize that this is the second person of the God-head. They did not realize who they were talking to, but Jesus did. Though he did not tell them. He knew who he was. he knew he was the anointed one, he knew that he was God’s only begotten son, therefore he was confident. He didn’t need anyone to boost his head, he knew who he was in God and to God.
May I submit to you that when you are handling your business you have to be confident in who you are in God. Now I didn’t say arrogant. That is a problem in the church that I believe is hurting us, we’re so arrogant. We think because we can do what we do, know what we know, have what we have, we’re better than other’s. Just because I can put a few words together and with a scripture and call it a sermon, doesn’t mean I have the right to look down on anyone. Luke 14:11 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”” Being humble doesn’t mean you don’t have confidence, being humble is knowing who and whose you are. And because I know who I am and whose I am, I don’t have to life myself because he will lift me at the right time. Jesus knew who he was and he was confident in himself, even in the face of these teachers of the Law. God wants you to be confident in who you are while you are out here doing the Lord’s business. Do you not realize who you are? Psalm 139: 13-14 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
You are a child of the most high God, you are a Disciples of Christ, and you have to have confidence in that. You must let the world know that I may not look like much to you, but what’s I have inside me, gives me confidence so I can handle my business.
When you have business to handle, you have to know who you’re working for.
When you have business to handle, you have to know who you’re working for.
The text says that Mary get’s a hold of Jesus and she asks
Luke 2:48 (ESV)
“Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.”
Jesus responds and says, Why were you looking for me? Did you not know I must be about my father’s business.
Jesus had to remind Mary, I thank God for Joseph, I thank God for all he has done for us, I thank him for not putting you away when you became pregnant with me, I thank God for Joseph, but Joseph is not my Father, as a matter of fact, Jesus in the the Word of God, never calls Joseph father. He knew who he worked for, he knew who his Father was.
