Jesus Gives Abundant Life
Jesus Gives Abundant Life
Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.
What does Jesus say He came to do?
What does Jesus say He came to do?
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Jesus gives us life. Is a statement that most of us would be ok with and it would be good enough for most of us.
But the verse doesn’t end with just that...
… and that they may have it more abundantly...
Its the more than usual… the overflowing part we have trouble with.
Life can’t be that good...
We should suffer more..
We should be poor and miserable.
Many times holiness has been associated with poverty and denial of any good thing.
Materialism is sin and will always sin.
But God does give us good gifts
We Need an Abundant Mindset
We Need an Abundant Mindset
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
If every good and perfect gift is from above and God doesn’t give us anything but good things… then who gives us bad things?
Why do we conform to lack? why do we choose misery?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
God always had our best interest in mind!
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
The garden of Eden!
The Promised Land!
Jesus!
Heaven!
All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
Who are we listening to? The voices of the one who steals and robs us?
Why do we agree with the thief when he says this doesn’t belong to you? I will take it from you now! This is too good for you! You don’t deserve this?
Abundance X Trials
Abundance X Trials
The tension happens because of the trials we go through in life!
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
If God is with us in our trials then abundance is with us!
The trials of this life will try and rob you and steal your peace, your confidence. But Our abundant God speaks to our hearts a word of encouragement in this moment… be of good cheer!
You don’t want to be fake about this… Please don’t be fake...
how do we get real then?
How can the abundance of God prevail in us in the midst of our trials?
Who are we giving our ear to when our hearts begin to fade?
Whose voice do you lean on when the trouble is knocking on your door?
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
Going in means going into a place of safety,
Going out meant risk and danger… either way you are not alone!
for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
Oh, how great is Your goodness,
Which You have laid up for those who fear You,
Which You have prepared for those who trust in You
In the presence of the sons of men!
