KNOWING GOD MESSAGE 6

1. GREATEST KNOWLEDGE OF ALL

Isaiah 40:13–14 KJV 1900
13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, Or being his counseller hath taught him? 14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, And taught him in the path of judgment, And taught him knowledge, And shewed to him the way of understanding?
Romans 11:33 KJV 1900
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
God’s knowledge is never superseded or made obsolete by new discoveries.
Bright, Bill; Bright, Brad. God, Who Are You Anyway?: I Am Bigger than You Think (p. 176). Morgan James Publishing. Kindle Edition.
1 John 3:20 KJV 1900
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

Our All-Knowing God

Theologians call God’s unlimited knowledge omniscience (all knowing).

What does God’s omniscience mean?

More than 300 years ago, one of the 17th century’s great theologians, Stephen Charnock, wrote:

He knows what angels know, what man knows, and infinitely more; He knows Himself, His own operations, all His creatures, the notions and thoughts of them.

Because God knows absolutely everything that can ever be known, He has never had to learn anything.

He does not need a computer because all knowledge is instantly accessible to Him and He remembers everything at all times.

He is never bewildered or confused or perplexed.

He never has to figure something out; everything is always absolutely clear to Him.

Nothing ever surprises God;

He is always completely aware of all events because He sees everything.

Nothing ever turns out differently than He expected or planned.

Allow us to Highlight four Areas of God’s Omniscience .

A. GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT HIMSELF.

1 Corinthians 2:11 KJV 1900
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Let me give two examples of the importance of God’s knowledge of Himself.

First, as humans, we do not know ourselves completely, let alone what is going on in the heart of another person.

That is why many of our laws when put into practice work against what they were intended to do.

Second, if a king did not know his own authority or the borders and nature of his kingdom, how could he rule?

His authority would suffer from serious lapses.

But God does know every detail about His creatures, and His ability to rule in majesty and fairness is unequaled.

Matthew 11:27 KJV 1900
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

B. Only God Knows Everything About His Creation

Some people believe that our vast and orderly universe originated as a result of a massive explosion known as the “Big Bang.”

This theory proposes that billions of years ago, before there were stars or planets, all of the energy and matter of the universe were crammed together into a single point.

Somehow, this point exploded, which caused the planets, stars, and galaxies to emerge.

Yet even renowned scientists admit that no one really knows how stars originated.

Abraham Loeb of the Harvard University Center for Astrophysics says,

“The truth is that we don’t understand star formation at a fundamental level.”

C. Only God Knows Everything That Has Ever Happened or Will Happen

Isaiah 46:9–10 KJV 1900
9 Remember the former things of old: For I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times the things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all my pleasure:

His omniscience is vitally important to us.

As we get to know Him more intimately, we realize that

God knows every good intention we have—as well as every temptation.

we can trust Him because He does know everything we have done and will do, yet He loves us anyway.

Some people are intimidated by God because He knows the end from the beginning—and everything in between.

Proverbs 15:3 KJV 1900
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Beholding the evil and the good.

a.God Knows the Past

None of us have a perfect memory, and we sometimes forget incidents in our past that would be helpful in the future.

As a result, we run into all kinds of obstacles because we did not remember the past.

Our omniscient God, however, never forgets the past.

One of the marvelous facets of God’s knowledge is that He knows everything that has happened in the past as though it were happening right now.

He has no dark recesses in his memory where some past action lies hidden.

Since He knows our past perfectly, as we submit to the Holy Spirit, He illuminates what we need to know to take proper action.

The only time God promises not to remember our past is when we seek His forgiveness.

Isaiah 43:25 KJV 1900
25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, And will not remember thy sins.

He consciously does not “remember” them after we confess them (1 John 1:9).

b. God Knows the Present

If God did not know all the present, then He could be deceived and misled.

But God knows everything about all His creatures.

The psalmist writes, (Psalm 33:13–15).

Psalm 33:13–15 KJV 1900
13 The Lord looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men. 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh Upon all the inhabitants of the earth. 15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; He considereth all their works.
(Luke 22:31,32,.
Luke 22:31 KJV 1900
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luke 22:32 KJV 1900
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Knowing the condition of Peter’s heart and that Peter would later disciple his brothers and sisters in their faith, Jesus prayed for him even before his denial.

Jesus does the same for us today.

c. God Knows the Future

consider the foreknowledge of God.

At one time, nothing existed but God, yet at any point in time, He knew the past, present, and future.

He knew when He would create the universe, that Adam and Eve would sin, and that He would send a Savior.

There is neither a thought in your mind nor a motive that God does not know.

To prove His ability to predict the future, God gave us hundreds of prophecies in the Bible.

One that fascinates me is the prophecy that the Jewish people would be scattered across the globe and then called back together as a nation (Deuteronomy 30:3; Isaiah 11:11,12; Jeremiah 23:3,4; Zephaniah 3:20).

Deuteronomy 30:3 KJV 1900
3 That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.
Isaiah 11:11 KJV 1900
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, That the Lord shall set his hand again the second time To recover the remnant of his people, Which shall be left, from Assyria, And from Egypt, and from Pathros, And from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, And from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
Isaiah 11:12 KJV 1900
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, And shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, And gather together the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.
Jeremiah 23:3 KJV 1900
3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
Jeremiah 23:4 KJV 1900
4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord.
Zephaniah 3:20 KJV 1900
20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: For I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, When I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.

The temple of Jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70 and the Jewish nation destroyed.

But almost 2,000 years later, in 1948, the Jewish people reestablished their homeland in Israel.

The odds against that happening after nearly two millennia are astronomical!

God’s prophecies are 100 percent accurate because He not only knows the future through His omniscience, but He also controls the future by His power and sovereignty.
