Remember this recurring theme of Colossians: The authority and power of Christ’s atonement on the cross - PLUS NOTHING ELSE = Salvation, sanctification, fruitfulness, holiness, faith, and life.
Paul wrote the letter to address heresies in the church at Colossae.
1) Heresies don’t just spring up out of nowhere. they are demonically inspired deception.
2) Heresy is designed by Satan to blind, bind, damn, and destroy human beings.
3) Heresies appeal to ignorance of truth or a perceived unmet need.
4) Heresy grows in a life that is not centered in Christ.
In Chapter One we learned the preeminence of Christ.
Jesus is perfect theology: any theology you have that is not demonstrated in Christ is at the least flawed, at the worst heretical.
Chapter Two - Beware of false teachers.
Love over legalism.
You weren’t changed by the law, which defined and pointed out your sins; you were changed by the forgiveness of those sins and the utter destruction of sin’s power over your life.
Stop trying to do anything that turns a relationship into a religion!
When you found Christ, you found the source of all truth and revelation. I didn’t find all truth and revelation; I just found the source, and He gave me the opportunity to renew my mind in the truth that sets me free.

COLOSSIANS CHAPTER 3
1 Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority!
2 Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.
3 Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ.
4 And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with him in his glory!
Paul has illustrated the power of the Gospel over religion in the previous chapter; our freedom from the judgement of the law.
He now exhorts us that his new freedom is not to live as we please, but an opportunity to live a life pleasing to God.
Define, embrace, and explore by experience the new life in Christ, and let the demonstration of this new life define your life.
How do we do that?!?
First and foremost; believe that it is both possible, and a requirement of a follower of Christ!
5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.
8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
Where are these sinful things lurking? In you; not in your spouse, not in President Biden, not in that unpleasant co-worker, but in you.
Don’t concede your authority to others; embrace your authority in Christ.
How does this evil manifest?
And, as the corrupt principles in the heart must be cut off, so the product of them in the tongue; as blasphemy, which seems there to mean, not so much speaking ill of God as speaking ill of men, giving ill language to them, or raising ill reports of them, and injuring their good name by any evil arts,—filthy communication, that is, all lewd and wanton discourse, which comes from a polluted mind in the speaker and propagates the same defilements in the hearers
You’ve been crucified with Christ. Take up your cross.
14 As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.
9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Stop lying! Satan is the father of lies.
44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
It may take you some time to break addictions, but you can choose to stop lying at any moment.
Colossians 3:12–17 (TPT)
12 You are always and dearly loved by God! So robe yourself with virtues of God, since you have been divinely chosen to be holy. Be merciful as you endeavor to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all. Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others.
13 Tolerate the weaknesses of those in the family of faith, forgiving one another in the same way you have been graciously forgiven by Jesus Christ. If you find fault with someone, release this same gift of forgiveness to them.
14 For love is supreme and must flow through each of these virtues. Love becomes the mark of true maturity.
15 Let your heart be always guided by the peace of the Anointed One, who called you to peace as part of his one body. And always be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ live in you richly, flooding you with all wisdom. Apply the Scriptures as you teach and instruct one another with the Psalms, and with festive praises, and with prophetic songs given to you spontaneously by the Spirit, so sing to God with all your hearts!
17 Let every activity of your lives and every word that comes from your lips be drenched with the beauty of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. And bring your constant praise to God the Father because of what Christ has done for you!
19 The more talk, the less truth; the wise measure their words.
19 Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
18 Let every wife be supportive and tenderly devoted to her husband, for this is a beautiful illustration of our devotion to Christ.
18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.

Women act like men, when men act like children.
18 Let every wife be supportive and tenderly devoted to her husband, for this is a beautiful illustration of our devotion to Christ.
19 Let every husband be filled with cherishing love for his wife and never be insensitive toward her.
20 Let the children respect and pay attention to their parents in everything for this pleases our Lord Jesus.
21 And fathers, don’t have unrealistic expectations for your children or else they may become discouraged.
22 Let every employee listen well and follow the instructions of their employer, not just when their employers are watching, and not in pretense, but faithful in all things. For we are to live our lives with pure hearts in the constant awe and wonder of our Lord God.
23 Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others.
24 For we know that we will receive a reward, an inheritance from the Lord, as we serve the Lord Yahweh, the Anointed One!
25 A disciple will be repaid for what he has learned and followed, for God pays no attention to the titles or prestige of men.
