WHAT WE NEED FOR THE NEW YEAR
TEXT: Joshua 3:4
INTRODUCTION: As we start out this New Year we no doubt will experience many new things. Perhaps some of us will not see another decade. Just as Israel was embarking on the journey into a new land, we to are embarking on a new journey. There are some things we need as we go forward.
I. SALVATION
A. Without salvation there is no hope for the future.
1. What are your plans following death
a) It is an appointment you cannot break
b) Death is no respector of persons, rich or poor-young or old
2. What are your plans when you stand before God
a) Everyone will have to give an account
b) I lived a good life
c) I never wronged any one
d) I went to church
3. We would be like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn’t there.
B. Jesus said Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
II. SEPARATION
A. We must separate ourselves from the world
1. 2 Corinthinans 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2. We are saved from sin not to live in sin
B. Christ is coming back after a pure people
1. Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
2. God is Holy. He cannot allow sin in His presence
III. SURRENDER
A. Jesus set the example for surrender
1. Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
2. He did the will of the Father
B. We must do God’s will
1. What is God’s will for your life
2. He has a purpose for all of us
IV. STEERING
A. Ho ly Spirit to convict us
1. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
B. Holy Spirit to guide us
1. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
V. SERVICE
A. Faithful church attendance
B. Tithing
C. Witnessing
VI. SUPPORT
A. Unity
1. Psalm 133:1 A Song of degrees of David.Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2. Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
B. Acceptance
1. We are not all alike
2. God accepts us
a) If we set ourselves to judge then we are saying we are greater than God
C. Strength
1. Strength in numbers
2. When I am down, you pick me up and vice versa
