That You May Know: A Solemn Warning to God’s Children: (1 John 2:18-27)
Summary: As John concluded his introductory section that began in vs. 12, which we
began to examine last week.
Remember, first, he began with a commendation to his little
children (Teknion).
This was followed by an exhortation to not love the world or the
things in the world.
He then reminded them that if they loved the world the love that they
claim to have for the Father is not valid.
Today, he now gives them a solemn warning
where he reminds them of four essential things: First, they are to realize that it is the last
hour.
Second, they are to recognize those who have defected from orthodox teaching.
Third, they are to remember their divine anointing.
Fourth, they are to retain the gospel
message that they heard from the beginning.
