Introduction - We have finished with the Four Fold Gospel, the main theological stance of the C&MA as put forth by A.B. Simpson when he began the deeper life in Christ movement which grew into the denomination known as the C&MA.
This Four Fold Gospel is Jesus our Savior, Jesus our Sanctifier, Jesus our Healer and Jesus our Coming King. Now we are going to take a look at the core values of the C&MA.
Every person, ministry and business should have a set of values which it uses as a starting point for how it will operate. The list of values could be kind of long if you just use everything you that pops into your head. So, the list needs to be boiled down to the basics or what would be known as the core values.
So what’s the difference between a value and a core value?
Value - a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life
Core Value - a principle or belief that a person or organization views as being of central importance
So, this list of core values that is developed should be what is of central importance to the individual or organization. So after the list is developed it will show the world what or who is important to the organization. If people are important to the organization the values will point to people, if the business is important to the organization the values will point to the business and if God is important to the organization the values will point to God. It all depends on the kingdom that you wish to grow. Now let me illustrate this point for you. Here is the five main principles or values of the Toyoda (Toyota) company.
Founding Spirit Toyoda Principles: Five Main Principles of Founder Sakichi Toyoda
Always be faithful to your duties, thereby contributing to the company and to the overall good.
Always be studious and creative, striving to stay ahead of the times.
Always be practical and avoid frivolousness.
Always strive to build a homelike atmosphere at work that is warm and friendly.
Always have respect for spiritual matters, and remember to be grateful at all times.
Now I’ll show you a set of core values that is completely different. These are the core values of a christian ministry which works to set people free from the bondage of food and unhealthy life styles through education and personal fitness. This ministry is known as Revelation Wellness.
Their Core values are:
God First. No Gimmicks. Freedom Living.
GOD FIRST –  The fitness and wellness industry is wonderful realm that can get noisy at times. With new products and promotions popping up in every magazine or social media feed, it’s easy for us all to get lost in the promises of achieving the better version of ourselves. None of these things are bad in and of themselves, it’s our hearts that get easily lost when we look only to what can be seen. We believe one of the best ways to keep ourselves from getting lost in a sea of “do this or don’t do that” is to be a Matthew 6:33 people; “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” At Revelation Wellness we seek God first and most so we might know how and when to give our best yes to God, ourselves or another.
NO GIMMICKS –  Gimmicks occur when lofty promises are made in order to attract attention. Many people have been discouraged by their health and wellness experiences because not only did someone make a promise to them that they couldn’t keep, they also couldn’t keep their own promises to themselves. This ongoing pattern of broken promises (from themselves or another) fuels the cycle of shame and can keep people feeling unworthy of God’s redeeming love. At Revelation Wellness we hold all people in high honor and esteem. We consider it a privilege to walk alongside people who are desiring to get better and not just feel better. We see all our classes, trainings and events as a holy and whole space for people to grow in relationship with a God who keeps all His promises. For this reason, Revelation Wellness does not sell or partner with any one supplement or product in order to be a “clearing space” for people to reset and refresh should they have gotten taken captive by a desire of their flesh. If you are a representative of a product line, you are welcome here. We are not anti-supplement or anti-product but we are anti-gimmick. Join us as we see people as opportunities to serve, to build them up as image-bearers of God and never as opportunities for personal or platform growth.
FREEDOM LIVING - If there’s one thing we get excited about at Revelation Wellness it’s the idea of helping people get free from their patterns of obsessing and neglecting about the things of this world -from worshipping created things more over creator God (Romans 1:28). Worship occurs wherever, whenever and to whomever I ascribe highest value and to whom or where we go looking for our needs to be met. To be human is not a matter of if we will worship, it’s a matter of who or what we will worship because everybody has a hungry heart. Anything we give highest value to that is not God is what the Bible calls idolatry – a giving ourselves away to a false god. Idolatry takes our hearts captive, leads us into bondage and away from living healthy, whole, and free. At Revelation Wellness, we are excited to partner with God as He does His healing and redemptive work of setting all the captives free to love God, get healthy, be whole, and love others because free people, free people.
Where should our values begin. Just like Revelation Wellness believes - it should all start with God and His kingdom. After that all the other stuff will be added on.
So just like Mat 6:33
Matthew 6:33 NASB95
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
We can work at building His kingdom....
or we can work at building our own kingdom.
It’s always easier working on our own kingdom - we can see what is going on - we won’t always see anything happening when we work on His kingdom. We just have to trust that He is at work building His kingdom right along side of us and many times in spite of us.
But what is the point of having values to live by?
Luke 6:43–45 NASB95
43 “For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. 44 “For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. 45 “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
According to this if what you are living by is good all that will come out of you will be good.
It’s all based on the values that we store up in our hearts that we will live by. Good values will bring good things. Bad or no values will bring about bad things.
If you don’t currently have some values in your heart that you are living by you should find some and store them up as treasure in your heart. And then begin living by them. One way to do this is to make up your own, another way is to adopt a set of values that some one else put together. This is a good way to go about getting some values if you trust where the values came from and for what purpose they were created.
If you want a nice secular set to handle your work life then maybe the Toyoda values would work. The Revelation Wellness values are kind of specific to that ministry. If you want a set that will have you seeking the heart of God then give the values of the Christian and Missionary Alliance a try. They will certainly stretch your faith if you go all in with them. And I mean all the way...
What are the values of the Christian and Missionary Alliance? Well - take a look at this short video and find out.
The Christian and Missionary Alliance has seven core values. Each one is based on scripture and was introduced in the video by a worker of the C&MA.
#1 - Lost people matter to God. He wants them found. Luke 19:10
Luke 19:10 (NASB95)
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
#2 - Prayer is the primary work of God’s people. Philippians 4:6-7
Philippians 4:6–7 NASB95
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
#3 - Everything we have belongs to God. We are His stewards. 1 Chronicles 29:14
1 Chronicles 29:14 NASB95
14 “But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.
#4 - Knowing and obeying God’s word is fundamental to all true success. Joshua 1:8
Joshua 1:8 NASB95
8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
#5 - Completing the Great Commission will require the mobilization of every fully devoted disciple. Matthew 28:19
Matthew 28:19 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
#6 - Without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish nothing. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
1 Corinthians 2:4–5 NASB95
4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
#7 - Achieving God’s purposes means taking faith-filled risks. This always involves change. Hebrews 11:6
Hebrews 11:6 NASB95
6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
There you have it. The core values of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. If we were to put these core values into practice in our own lives we would certainly be living by faith and seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. How would things change if we all put just one of these core values into practice?
Suppose we started really trying to find the lost people and helping them be saved? Would a revival break out in this town?
Or maybe we treated our stuff as though it was really God’s - what would that look like?
Supposed we prayed more, studied more, did more or let the Holy Spirit work in us more? How about we all take a faith filled risk and put one of these into practice this week. Just give it a try and see what the Lord will do with it.
Over the next seven weeks we will look at each of these values to see just what it means.
