To see clearly you must be in the light
This is a letter from a witness of Christ crucifiec and risen again. John lived with Jesus for many years and saw him on the cross as he died and then saw him risen, alive again on the third day.
He is one of many witnesses
Fellowship with God (1-4)

He has heard with his own ears (1)
He has seen with his own eyes (1)
He was revealed to them in flesh (2)
“Truly” he had no doubts (3)
John invites you to have fellowship with Christ by receiving the testimony of light
This is written so you can have fellowship as well (3)
This is written so you can have joy (4)
This is written so you can have eternal life (2)
Fellowship with the Light (5-8)
Fellowship with the Light (5-8)
The message of Christ is that he is light
There is no darkness or sin in Him
He cannot and will not have fellowship with darkness or sin (They are contrary to one-another)
Fellowship with light will expose your fallenness
When you come into contact with light it will expose what you did not think was there
We like to compare ourselves with others who are less than us or worse than us
If we are compared to perfection and holiness we are shown to be less
If you confess that you have no sin than you are proving that you have not been in contact with the Light
Acceptance into fellowship (9-10)
Acceptance into fellowship (9-10)
When the light exposes your sin and fallenness, will you accept and confess ?
The light has power to repel all of the darkness out of our life to make us pure and righteous
God is faithful and able to do this work
If he does not than he is a liar and full of darkness/deception
But that is not who he is, HE IS LIGHT
To reject the revelation of the light is to reject God and his fellowship
We are calling God a liar
We have no fellowship with God
