On a personal note James was the half brother of Jesus and the brother of Jude.

James was an unbeliever at first but after the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Look up Mark 6:3 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Because further proof is found in John 7:3-10 verse 7 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

Sometimes people in your own family won’t believe in you.

James had to see it to believe it. Then Christ appeared to James in His Glorified Body. The Apostle Paul wrote about it in 1Cor.15:7-11 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

Another interesting fact about James was that James was among the 120 that were in the Upper Room and Jesus had won his brothers because Act 1:12-14 describes the significant change in James 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. When our convictions are rooted and grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ meaning when we believe in the birth, life, burial, and resurrection of Christ we’ll get on one accord with one purpose, with one goal, and that is to worship, pray, and praise the Lord.

The central message or key verse is found in James 1:22 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: The preface of this lesson is to give a general outline of what the Book of James is all about

Verse 2. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; If we tell the truth about it, stuff just pops-up and not just one thing either. There was a saying back in the day If it ain’t one thing then it’s another. And James tells us that when trouble comes in multiple ways we are to count it all Joy>>>>> Even in the midst of adversity still put on Joy. and when we do that, when we put on Joy, people don’t know how to case you.

Listen the roof could be caving in the walls could be falling down the road could be buckling up and coming to and end but put on Joy…And say to yourself this joy I have the world didn’t give it to me and the world surely can’t take it away. And where others might lose their mind “you’ll persevere”.2x And here’s why

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Sometimes God put us through changes to build up or patience.. Building patience requires faith in God, and the bible says that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”. And I remember when my grandmother would say to me that I needed more patience. I didn’t understand that that meant that God was going to put me through unwanted changes to build my patience and make me have faith in Him and only rely on God fully to see me through. Most people say that I have faith 3x but know this that our faith will be tried and tested oh yeah!

We’re going to go through the fire, the storm and the rain and life is going to dish out some pain of us regardless of who you are. And here’s why verse 4 explains to us “But let patience have her perfect work, (That means that It’s a process 2x ) so that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Because the worse thing in the world is to be sent out ill-equipped, ill- prepared, sent out not knowing how to handle life on your own.

And for the young graduates this is a trying time, this is a testing time, this is a time to seek first the kingdom of God and all of His righteousness so that all these things shall be added unto you. What things? things like you food, your fitness, your fashion, your finances, your faith, and yes your future.

In life sometimes we don’t really know which way to go but James gives us the formula in verse 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The scriptures teaches, talks, and tells us ask God to meet your needs. Jesus said ask and it shall be given seek and ye shall find and then knock on the door and the door shall be open unto you. Because The privilege is to ask and the promise is that it shall be given unto you. The privilege is to seek and the promise is that ye shall find and the privilege is the knock and the promise is that God will open the doors to your success. And so if you need wisdom ask God…True story 2x When I came back from Los Angeles in 1986 I asked God to help me pass the NTE and I studied 6 months for it and I passed the NTE with high marks. Saints of God, I personally knew that I didn’t have the proper cognitive abilities or comprehensive skills or assessment skills to pass that NTE Oh but God… God knew my future depended on making me a bonifide school teacher So by asking God for wisdom,,, the Lord allowed me to be successful.

And if God did it for me He’ll do it for you too.. and that’s when I can say “you don’t know like I know what the Lord has done for me”.

Saints you’ve got to believe that God is able, you’ve got to have faith that God will see you through because James says in 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. Listen to me,I believe God all the way even ! after ! I fail ! because God could change His Mind about my situation. I’ve seen where I wasn’t supposed to succeed and the people came back and said you’re approved here’s your brand new car with $300 down. Top of the line Cadillac. won’t He do it… That was in 1993. So I have a history with believing God and having unwavering Faith in the Almighty God. Look at verses 8&9 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted. When you’ve been down to the bottom and you have nothing left that ought to be a time to lean and depend on God fully. I’ve tired it my way. It didn’t work I’ve done things the world’s way it didn’t work so now I have a single mind to trust God. because the bible says
in Proverbs 3:5 trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path. We can’t have a mind on Jesus and then turn our hearts to the devil. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Listen to me If I say I’m with you today I’m with you.but it’s got some people that will go any way that the wind blows. If you’re popular you’re in … if somebody else get a new season you’re out and they have switched like the wind. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

verse 9 says let the brother of low esteem rejoice meaning 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted. You’ve been down so long until it’s time for your seasons to change. And I don’t mind shouting with people who finally get their break through. Listen to me you’re a sad individual when you can’t rejoice with me when the lord blesses me. I’ve seen times when I’ve shouted for people with their success but when my success came they folded their arms and pouted.
