I. Do any of you have “The Person" that is your “go to person?” BFF? maybe, neighbor, church longtime friend? Especially when things get a little rattled or tough?

A. Many are trying to find rest by going on vacations, the old phrase, “I need to get away,” taking up or finding hobbies, seeking pleasures and entertainment. Sound familiar to anyone here this morning?

B. Many are trying to find rest by going to doctors, lawyers, friends, and counselors, someone with higher education maybe? Now, who are we avoiding here? Jesus of course. We independent thinkers know who to go to first don’t we? If it’s a relationship issue, Dr Phil, right? LOL If it’s a financial issue, of course Dave Ramsey. Are you getting this today church?

C. Jesus Christ is the one to go to first. We can pray and ask Jesus what’s up? He will always lead us to who we need to see or talk to. He will also lead us to wait and listen, He has the answers of who can give lasting and enduring rest. Other ways and means help but they are ineffective without the Person.

Hebrews 12:1–3 “1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”

Are we seeing the meaning of Matt 11:28?

A. Millions of people today are laden down with sin and guilt. Anyone here this morning hurt someone last week? Said mean words? Took action to hurt someone? We feel bad about those choices don’t we? Are we taking the time to go to Jesus and ask, to pray for guidance? Probably not first do we?

B. Many Christians are consumed with doubts, worries, and the cares of life. Isn’t it amazing how one little worry can turn into the biggest issue if we don’t take the issue to Jesus first then listen? At least it’s that way with me.

C. The “people” includes all who are heavy laden. No one is excluded. Jesus has compassion for every individual.

Matthew 9:36–37 “36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”

We are told over and over how to find rest but again, we have to be doing our part........

Hebrews 4:9–11 “9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. 11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.”

So, if at the beginning of the message today, you were struggling with “unrest”, with guilt, with worries which were causing you to be so tired, so frazzled, so worn out, you now know and we have been promised “rest through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
