Psalm 128

Psalm 128:1–6 NIV
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. May you live to see your children’s children— peace be on Israel.
The Source of the Blessing
Psalm 128:1 NIV
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
every time our blessing is tied to our obedience

The Nature of the Blessing
Psalm 128:2 NIV
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
again the psalmist reinforces that blessings and prosperity will be ours
our labour will not be in vain
our labour in life, our labour in ministry
we will enjoy the labour we do
The Blessing of the Home
Psalm 128:3 NIV
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
a blessed man will have a blessed wife
a fruitful vine is a symbol of prosperity
it demonstrates that all is well
the fruit of the vine recalls a place of joy
do not take this verse out of the cultural context
today a blessed man and a blessed woman share in the blessings of the Lord
the children declares the hope and promise of the future
this is the lot of a blessed person

Psalm 128:4 NIV
Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.
again the psalmist brings attention to the divine truth
the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
the fear of the Lord brings the blessing into the person and into the family
Psalm 128:5 NIV
May the Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
the blessings goes to you from Zion, from God himself
God is the pinnacle of prosperity
prosperous in grace, in mercy, in love joy and peace
he never fails, he never falters, God is faithful and his promises are faithful
you are able to be in the prosperity of God

May you live to see your children’s children— peace be on Israel.
