Intro: Julie Seals story

Ephesians 2:3 NLT
3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Romans 12:2 NLT
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

I. Transformation Always Begins With an Encounter with Jesus (John 4:7-14)

A. Divine Appoint
B. Jesus meets us where we are at—physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and socially.
*She had experienced the sting of racism, sexism, and knew what it meant to love but not be loved in return.
Here Jesus is crossing all the lines—He is having conversation with a woman — who is Samaritan. She may have wondered the last time she had been spoken to with such respect.
C. Divine Engagement—which always stirs a desire for what Jesus offers to us
Zaccheus/Matthew/woman caught in adultery (John 8)
Right now, this moment is an Encounter with Jesus! When we talk about Jesus, and focus on Him, there is an encounter with Jesus.

II. Transformation Requires Repentance (John 4:15-18)

A. Repentance means an admission to sin/breaks down those barriers that come between us and the God who deeply loves and values us.
David ?
We need to continually have a heart of repentance.

III. Transformation Reveals Identity (John 4:19-26)

A. Jesus reveals Himself to us
B. God’s revelation is universal, but also personal or intimate
1 Chronicles 28:9 NLT
9 “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
When we know God intimately, the eyes of our hearts are opened.
Ephesians 1:18 ESV
18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
Paul—road to Damascus Acts 9:18
Acts 9:18 NLT
18 Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.
We need the continual revelation of Jesus Christ in our lives

IV. Transformation Makes a Declaration (John 4:28-30)

A. Our testimony declares the work of Jesus in our lives—affects our countenance, our body language, our words/attitudes-and encourages others to seek Jesus
B. Declares love for others—even those who hurt us
Elizabeth Elliot
We need to testify to what God has done in us, for us , and through us.

V. Transformation Affects Others (John 4:39-42)

A. Our testimony encourages others to seek Jesus
B. Others are encouraged to engage with Jesus
C. Others are encouraged to invite Jesus to be part of their lives.
Angel
We need to tell people about Jesus so they too can experience His transformation in their lives.

Conclusion

Jean Seals story
2 Corinthians 3:16–18 NLT
16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
