Message - United in One Accord (Holy Spirit)
Share about the significance of the Day of Pentecost (Sunday)
Originally the feast of the harvest or feast of weeks (Pentecost) was a practice set out around the early harvest that took place 50 days or 7 weeks after the first fruits - which there were 2 harvest seasons with the early one being May and June.
For us as Pentecostal christians we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit which occurred on the day of Pentecost which is the 7th Sunday after the Resurrection Sunday.
Lets Pray
Acts 2:1-13 NKJV
1 - When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 - And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 - Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 - And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 - And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 - And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7 - Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 - And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9 - Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 - Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 - Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”12 - So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” 13 - Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”
Point 1.
We need to be in One accord.
Acts 2:1 “They were all with one accord in one place.”
● To be in one accord means to be of same mind and/or spirit.
● So as christians we all need to be of one accord with both with Holy Spirit and those
around us - for when we are not in unity this allows our flesh and/or the devil to bring
division.
● As seen in this passage they were brought into one accord by being obedient to
Jesus and waiting in Jerusalem and fellowshipping together.
● So it is important that we make time (carve time) to pray, meditate on His word
together as a family, as a community.
Read Acts 2:4-11
But as we hear in this passage this doesn’t mean we experience the same move of Holy Spirit at the same time.
○ Some spoke in Tongues
○ Some speak in Different languages while speaking in Tongues
○ Some had the gift of interpretation of Tongues
● So by getting into one accord with Holy Spirit we open the door to allow yourself to
be used for God's glory.
Acts 2:14-21
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.
For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘
And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.
I will show wonders in heaven above
And signs in the earth beneath:
Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’
Point 2
Go with Holy Spirit and Authority God has given you.
2. Acts 4:13-16
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realised that they had been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
● It goes on to say that they try to threaten them not to use the name of Jesus to no man.
● You feel that you are not qualified to be speaking and moving in the gifts of the spirit but you need to remember it isn’t on you.
Matthew 10: 16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
● The more we move in the spirit the more we become a threat to the enemies plan and he will use both those out but also in the church.
● We are coming into the days where we need to be vigilant and take all things back to the word and ask for Holy Spirit to reveal it to us personally and also to be mindful to be in the world but not of the world.
● Even the apostles prayed for boldness
Acts 4:23-31
And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: ‘Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the Lord and against His Christ.’ “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.
29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Point 3
3. Greatest of these is Love.
I Corinthians 13:1-13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to
feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
● Remember to follow Jesus example of being able to move powerfully and do signs, wonders with Holy Spirit yet remaining humble and loving never boastful or prideful.
● Allowing Holy Spirit to give you check and guidance in your spirit to show love to others.
● A simple act of saying hello to someone with you might be busy taking a few extra minutes in a grocery line to listen.
● Sharing a testimony of God goodness
● Offering to pray for someone and doing it there or actually putting them on your
prayer list.
● As Holy Spirit moves mighty in our lives we need to stay true to the most important
gift God has given us the good news For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
● No matter what we have done no matter your past we can repent and be saved.
Close in prayer.
