Pentecost???

One of the 7 feast days of the church; a reminder to them of what the Lord had done or will do.
Today's Best Illustrations, Volume 5 Humor: Hearing What We Want to Hear

Our children’s church program recently finished a series on Jesus’ miracles. The teacher asked if the children had a favorite. My five-year-old son Brendan shot up his hand.

“I liked it when Jesus healed the ten leprechauns!”

Leviticus 23:16 NIV84
Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the Lord.
God uses this day to commission and empower the church.
The mark of a true feast was some kind of sign from God.
We have `1) wind 2)Tongues of fire 3) voice of the Holy Spirit

The Spirit Comes at Pentecost

Just before Pentecost, the disciples practiced, for the last time “choice by lot”.
1 Chronicles 24: 5, 31
1 Chronicles 24:31 NIV84
They also cast lots, just as their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same as those of the youngest.
Throughout Acts the Holy Spirit was given to different groups under different conditions, but never twice exactly the same.
This says to us, there is no one answer or one way to experience the Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus says, “He has gone to prepare a place for us, the Holy Spirit comes to each of us personally and individualized for each of us.
Today's Best Illustrations, Volume 5 Christianity Needs Community

The Christian life is not just our own private affair. If we have been born again into God’s family, not only has he become our Father but every other Christian believer in the world, whatever his nation or denomination, has become our brother or sister in Christ. But it is no good supposing that membership of the universal Church of Christ is enough; we must belong to some local branch of it. Every Christian’s place is in a local church, sharing in its worship, its fellowship, and its witness.

Acts 1:23–26 NIV84
So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
Acts 2:1–4 NIV84
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
John 16:5–15 NIV84
“Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

The Church’s first Sermon

Jesus death was fulfillment of Scripture
Who get the blame for Jesus’s crucifixion?

Exaltation of Christ

Who exalted Jesus?
What about us?

We find rest in those we love, and we provide a resting place in ourselves for those who love us

Have you accepted Jesus as the Lord of your Life? If you haven’t, there is no time better than now. If you have, do you continue to kive in HIM? How can you demonstrate your submission to HIM today?
