D. Only God Knows Everything About Us.

Psalm 139:1–6 KJV 1900
1 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, And laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Only God knows us perfectly and intimately.

He understands our desires, motives, and thoughts.

Nothing about us escapes His notice.

In fact, God As our Creator, God custom-designed us for a unique purpose.knows infinitely more about us than we will ever know about ourselves.

God also knows what is going on in the lives of the people with whom we come into contact every day.

He knows their struggles and has the answer to their problems.

God not only knows all about us, but He will never forget us.

He even keeps an account of the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30).

Matthew 10:30 KJV 1900
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

God promises through Isaiah:

(Isaiah 49:15,16,
Isaiah 49:15 KJV 1900
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee.
Isaiah 49:16 KJV 1900
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.

The reference to the engraving on the palms of God’s hands is a prophecy about the death of Christ on the cross when the Roman soldiers drove nails through His hands.

Christ submitted to death because of His love for us; the nail holes are eternal reminders of that love.

No wonder we can have assurance that God will never forget about us!

Consider a few things that demonstrate how well God knows you.

A.God Knows How You Are Designed

How devastating to realize that almost no one knows what you are like inside or the dreams you dream.

Take heart.

Remember that God knows how we are formed (Psalm 103:14).

Psalm 103:14 KJV 1900
14 For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.

As our Creator, He custom-designed us for a unique purpose.

David declared that the steps of a godly person are directed by the LORD (Psalm 37:23).

Psalm 37:23 KJV 1900
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighteth in his way.

That means He will guide us as we live our lives for Him.

God even “understands how weak we are; He knows we are only dust” (Psalm 103:14).

Psalm 103:14 KJV 1900
14 For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.

Let’s think of this list as a launching point into considering how convicting, challenging, and comforting it can be to realize what God says He knows about you and me!

Allow us to give 12 Things the Bible Says God Knows About Us

1. My hair — Matthew 10:29-30

Matthew 10:29–30 KJV 1900
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

This is probably one of the first ones you thought of when I said that God knows things about us that others don’t.

I am always amazed to read that God cares about the smallest of birds and even keeps track of how many hairs there are on my head and on yours.

What a crazy math problem that is for my head! But that is our God demonstrating that He cares and knows about EVERY LITTLE THING in my life and yours.

2. My beginning — Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13-18

Jeremiah 1:5 KJV 1900
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Psalm 139:13–18 KJV 1900
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, When I was made in secret, And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; And in thy book all my members were written, Which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with thee.

God’s omniscience is definitely seen in the creation of each life at conception.

In fact, God told Jeremiah that He knew Jeremiah even BEFORE he was conceived.

The Psalmist in Psalm 139 brilliantly describes how from the beginning of each life God was there and knows everything about each person that He has “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

We have a wonderfully omniscient God!

3. My relationship with Him — Nahum 1:7, Romans 8:16-17, John 10:28

Nahum 1:7 KJV 1900
7 The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; And he knoweth them that trust in him.
Romans 8:16–17 KJV 1900
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
John 10:28 KJV 1900
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

God knows every person who has chosen to trust Him.

He knows where we stand in our relationship with Him.

And He ministers to those He knows through the Holy Spirit Who witnesses with our spirit when we are His children.

He not only knows us, but John 10:28 tells us that He protects those whom He knows are trusting in Him.

John 10:28 KJV 1900
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

4. My name — Exodus 33:12, 17

Exodus 33:12 KJV 1900
12 And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
Exodus 33:17 KJV 1900
17 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

These were the verses that struck me first about what God knows about me!

God encourages Moses here that he should speak just what God had told him to speak because God knows everything about Moses and will lead him in the right way.

God says twice in this passage that He knows Moses by name!

God doesn’t see His people as a mass of believers working as a group to accomplish His purpose.

He knows each and every one of us by name!

5. My heart — Jeremiah 17:9-10, 1 John 3:20, 1 Kings 8:39, Psalm 66:18, Matthew 5:8

Jeremiah 17:9–10 KJV 1900
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
1 John 3:20 KJV 1900
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1 Kings 8:39 KJV 1900
39 Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
Psalm 66:18 KJV 1900
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me:
Matthew 5:8 KJV 1900
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

This is a sobering thought – God knows my heart!

He knows the innate wickedness of my heart (Jeremiah 17:9-10), and yet He says in 1 John 3:20, that He “is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”

Solomon, in his prayer of dedication for the temple, affirmed this truth – “…for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men” (1 Kings 8:39 ).

1 Kings 8:39 KJV 1900
39 Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)

God knows when we hold sin in our hearts causing our fellowship with Him to be broken.

And He knows when we are seeking to have a pure heart in order to see Him. He knows our hearts!

6. My thoughts — Psalm 139:2, Job 42:2, 2 Corinthians 10:5

Psalm 139:2 KJV 1900
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off.
Job 42:2 KJV 1900
2 I know that thou canst do every thing, And that no thought can be withholden from thee.
2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV 1900
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Here is another sobering thought – God knows our thoughts!

No thought has ever crossed the mind of a believer that has not been seen by God!

Psalms 39:2 says it clearly – He understands “my thoughts afar off.”

Psalm 39:2 KJV 1900
2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; And my sorrow was stirred.

He doesn’t just know my thoughts, but He understands them!

We might be afraid for other people to know all the things we are thinking at any given moment, but God already knows!

Job knew this truth.

He said that he knew “that no thought can be withholden from” God (Job42:2).

Job 42:2 KJV 1900
2 I know that thou canst do every thing, And that no thought can be withholden from thee.

God knew our thoughts would be a battleground.

That is why He admonishes us with 2 Corinthians 10:5 – He knows our thoughts and wants to help us bring every single one into captivity in obedience to Him! 7. My worries — Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Peter 5:7

Matthew 6:25–34 KJV 1900
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
1 Peter 5:7 KJV 1900
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Do you realize that if God knows your thoughts, He also knows the thoughts that turn into worries?

He taught His disciples and us about these worries in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:25-34

He encourages us in that passage to rest in the fact that He knows what we need and will take care of us even more than He cares for the lilies of the field.

He assures us that He knows and He cares.

Peter said it this way – “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” He knows all about our worries! 8. My actions — Ecclesiastes 12:14, 2 Corinthians 5:9-10

Ecclesiastes 12:14 KJV 1900
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
2 Corinthians 5:9–10 KJV 1900
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Of course, if God knows the things that we think, it is obvious that He knows the things that we do too!

At the close of the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon makes this truth very clear – “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

God cannot bring into judgment that which He does not know about.

Everything we do, both in private and in public, is seen and known by an omniscient God.

For believers, one day we will all stand before the Lord at the Judgment Seat of Christ and be judged, not for our sins, but for our work for the Lord according to what sort it is.

This is both encouraging to know that God knows everything that we do for Him, but it can also be convicting knowing that God knows when we have done those things for ourselves.

God knows our actions! 9. My words — Psalm 139:4, Matthew 12:36

Psalm 139:4 KJV 1900
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
Matthew 12:36 KJV 1900
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

God’s omniscience doesn’t miss even a word that I speak. Psalms 139:4 says that “there is not a word in my tongue,” that God does not know.

Psalm 139:4 KJV 1900
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Matthew 12:36 admonishes us to think about the words that we speak because we will give an account of “every idle word” that we speak.

Matthew 12:36 KJV 1900
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

10. My way — Job 23:10, Psalm 23:4, Proverbs 16:9, Psalm 139:3

Job 23:10 KJV 1900
10 But he knoweth the way that I take: When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Psalm 23:4 KJV 1900
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Proverbs 16:9 KJV 1900
9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: But the Lord directeth his steps.
Psalm 139:3 KJV 1900
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways.

There are lots of verses that speak about God’s direction of our way which requires that He knows the way we take!

Job affirmed this truth in the midst of his suffering – “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Psalms 139:3 encourages us that He knows when we walk through the valley and is right there with us.

Psalm 139:3 KJV 1900
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways.

Proverbs 16:9 reminds us that we might make plans, but God knows our way and directs even our steps.

Proverbs 16:9 KJV 1900
9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: But the Lord directeth his steps.

The Psalmist tells us that He is personally acquainted with our way. He knows and directs our way!

11. My weakness — Psalm 103:14, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Psalm 103:14 KJV 1900
14 For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 KJV 1900
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Psalm 103:14 is a verse I remind myself of often, because it reminds me that God knows how very weak I am – “For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.”

Knowing that God knows my weakness is not an excuse to wallow in it.

It is just a blessing to know that He knows! God encouraged Paul in his weakness by giving Paul daily, sufficient grace to handle the weakness.

God knows that when we recognize the weakness, we can rest in His strength!

12. My days — Psalm 90:12, James 4:14, Hebrews 9:27, Psalm 31:15

Psalm 90:12 KJV 1900
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
James 4:14 KJV 1900
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Hebrews 9:27 KJV 1900
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Psalm 31:15a KJV 1900
15 My times are in thy hand: Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

Why does the Psalmist speak of numbering his days in Psalm 90:12?

Because no man is assured of how many days he will spend on this earth.

James speaks of life as a vapor.

No one but God knows how many days we will live on this earth.

Again this is a sobering thought when dealing with God’s omniscience.

He has set an appointment with death, for believers and unbelievers alike.

For a believer that should be comforting, but for an unbeliever that would incredibly unsettling.

The Psalmist said that our times are in His hand (Psalm 31:15).

Our omniscient God knows our time on this earth! The Psalmist in Psalm 139 brilliantly describes how from the beginning of each life God was there and knows everything about each person that He has “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV 1900
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

A] God Knows You very well

We live in a world where satellites and drones can see license plates thousands of feet above ground.

Where government officials and hackers can find out about you and I.

Knowledge is power! Imagine knowing what’s going to happen in the future like shootings, hurricanes, North Korea, the Middle East, terrorist plots before they happen.

Imagine knowing tomorrow’s news. God knows everything possible – all events in the past, present and in the future. He’s never surprised about what we did in private.

He’s never shocked. He knows every detail of our entire life history.

Isaiah 46:10 KJV 1900
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times the things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all my pleasure:

He knows what has happened, what is happening and what will happen! He knows everything that could’ve happened that didn’t, what can happen, but won’t. It is encouraging to know that…

B] God knows our faults and failings.

Psalms 69:5

Psalm 69:5 KJV 1900
5 O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee.

He knows absolutely everything about us.

We forget this sometimes because it can make us feel uncomfortable.

None of us have secrets from God.

We always have an audience of ONE – there’s nothing off the record!

Everything you think about, God is aware of.

Ezekiel 11:6 KJV 1900
6 Ye have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.

C .God knows about everything you see, do and say!  Psalms 139:4

Psalm 139:4 KJV 1900
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Aren’t you glad your life is not in the National Enquirer at the checkout lane of the grocery store for all to see?

He knows our hypocrisy and he still lavishes His love upon us.

Amazing!  He doesn’t hold it against us.

We can respond by being honest with God.

He knows all about it, but he understands and He still loves you!

D]God knows our feelings and frustrations.

We might think that nobody knows what we’re going through, but God does.

He sees the crisis in our soul.

There is no hurt unnoticed by God.

Often when we’ve been deeply hurt we can feel isolated and lonely and think, “Nobody understands what I’m going through” but God does!

Psalms 31:7
Psalm 31:7 KJV 1900
7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: For thou hast considered my trouble; Thou hast known my soul in adversities;

God knows your feelings and frustrations more than anyone else. Psalms 103:13-14.

Psalm 103:13–14 KJV 1900
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, So the Lord pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.

In the midst of your weariness God is sympathetic.

He NOT only sees, but He cares for you!

He understands why it happened.

He knows the reasons that brought you to a certain place in your life.

He sees the hurt in your heart that no one else can.  Psalms 142:3.

Psalm 142:3 KJV 1900
3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked Have they privily laid a snare for me.

Maybe you feel like giving up?

He knows your hurt and your heart.

He’s measured your tears in a bottle so look to him for comfort and strength and cast your burdens upon Him today and every day.

E ]God knows your future.

Fortune tellers, astrologers, seers or tea leaf readers sell the future, but these are the wrong sources.

God sees tomorrow and what you will face and He is not limited to time.

God is like the blimp at the Rose Bowl parade, He sees the beginning and the end of the parade.

He is the alpha and the omega.

He knows your future and is not surprised.

Since God knows your future you can ask His advice.

God will not lay out your whole life at once.

If you did know your future you could be discouraged or filled with pride or both.

If you’re driving on a two lane mountain road and there is a slow car in front of you, you could pass the car so you could get to your destination sooner.

God is like a helicopter, He sees the other car coming toward you in the other lane.

F] He knows what’s coming. Don’t forget that.

Being that God sees all of your life ask Him for His strength and direction for your future. You’ll be glad you did.

Psalm 31:7 KJV 1900
7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: For thou hast considered my trouble; Thou hast known my soul in adversities;
Psalm 69:5 KJV 1900
5 O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee.
Isaiah 46:10 KJV 1900
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times the things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all my pleasure:

G] .God Knows Everything About Your Past.

(Jeremiah 17:9,10).
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV 1900
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Jeremiah 17:10 KJV 1900
10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

H. God Knows Everything You Face in the Present

When we face challenges or difficulties, the fact that God knows all things is encouraging.

Pastor David Jeremiah tells his congregation:

Our God knows what we are going through. He knows every minute of our pain and suffering.

He not only knows what we feel, He also knows why we feel what we feel.

He knows how it happened, and how long it’s going to last and how intense it is.

He knows every emotion associated with it; and when you are going through such difficult times, all you can do sometimes is look and say, “Father, you know…you know.”

I] God Knows the Future He Wants for You

Ephesians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

J}God Knows Which Choices Will Lead to His Best for You

Remember theses verses
Eph 1:4
Ephesians 1:4 KJV 1900
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Jeremiah 29:11
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV 1900
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
