We are continuing our series this morning in the Ephesians.
Titled the Armor of God.
In the same way someone would not go into battle without equipment or play football without a helmet and pads, Christians must put on the armor God has given us to withstand evil temptations that come our way.
Over the course of six weeks, this series will explain and apply each article in the armor of God—as described by Paul in Ephesians 6:10-18.
If you have you Bibles go head and turn to 1 Corinthians 15:1-6.
if not you can follow along on the screen in a few moments.
We have covered two different parts of the Armor so far in this series.
Week 1 we look at the belt of truth..Why?
This belt allows us to be ready for whatever Satan throws at us.
In the Romans time belts were use to hold up the long dress so they can be ready to run into battle.
So to the belt of truth is wore do we can be ready for battle.
This truth is that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died on the cross and rose again for you and I.
So we can have enteral life.
Last week we look at the breastplate of righteousness and why its important for us to put it on.
This peace one protect our most vulnerable parts but it also does more.
it reminds us to always live up to the the Righteousness of God.
It reminds us that we must live i life pure and holy.
A life worth living for God.
This week we will be look at the next peace the shoes of the Gospel of Peace.
What in the world does that mean?
Hopefully we can answer that question today.
Before we do I have a question for you.
Have you ever wore the wrong shoes somewhere?
Wearing winter books to on a long walk when its not cold outside.
Wearing high heals to the mall to shop.
Or like Nikki experienced wearing sandals to the beach in Porto.
which is nothing but small rocks.
We have all wear shoe at the wrong time a some point.
today is about putting on the right pear of shoes and allow God to use you.
In Ephesians 6:15
What is the gospel of peace?
Paul tell us to be ready with the shoes on our feet.
Like we have see shoes are important thing to wear.
They help project our feet for thing that can hurt them.
In Roman time the would lece tie up their sandals so they would be able to run and be ready to fight.
So what does the peace look like.
When we hear the word peace we often think of peace around the world right.
That is great and all but this not not the kind of peace Paul is talking about here.
If we read this passage again in the NLT.
We see it word a little different.
This peace is the Good News
You see its what Jesus did on the cross.
Paul lays out what this looks like
Real people saw Jesus
It’s important to remember that Jesus is a real person who really walked on the earth and really died for our sins.
This isn’t a fairy tale.
This isn’t a bedtime story.
This is a history lesson.
Jesus’ resurrection isn’t simply an event we celebrate at Easter.
It should be a mindset we celebrate every single day of the year.
When we sing worship songs, we’re singing because we’re grateful that Jesus saved our lives.
The gospel acts like shoes
because it should drive you out to share that Jesus has done for you.
Share this with the rest of the world. He saved your life and he can do the same for everyone around you , so why not tell them about them?
You never know what one word could help someone.
could change someone life.
Jesus took all the sin that we ever done
The Bible talks about a “cup of wrath” (Jeremiah 25:15-17, Matthew 20:22) that Jesus drank in our place.
This cup is all the sin in the world Jesus took that on.
who like hot sauce?
Imagine taking the hot sauce that we have right now.
Ghost pepper hot sauce.
Add a little to the cup every time you sin. .
Any time you lie, fight, steal, gossip, or hurt someone there would be more in the cup.
at the end of your life you have to drink this cup of sauce and not leave a drop of it left.
Would you drink it?
Could you drink it?
You would have to because it was your sin that filled the cup.
But Jesus comes and drinks the cup for us.
That’s that’s what Jesus did for us, with one exception—it wasn’t hot sauce, but spiritual poison.
The Good News can and will change your life
What Jesus did on the cross for us is a message of good news that will change the rest of our lives.
We must be ready to run and share that Jesus has done.
Do you have the shoes of peace to put on?
Are you willing to share this peace with others?
