Lot Didn’t See

What are you looking at today?

You may be looking so hard at some things, that you are missing some others…

    The blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby wrote more songs than anyone who ever lived, yet she was blind.

Her hymns would tell us that she saw quite well.

A lot of folks who think they can see are blind, while a lady who was blind seemed to see so much more than most people.

This morning I want to look at a man in Scripture.

His name was Lot.

We know that he was a righteous man.

! I.          Lot Didn’t See the Shame of Losing his Testimony

*/Genesis 19:12-14/*/ And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides?

son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: //13//For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.

//14//And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city.

But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

!! A.        We see the loss of respect; the guilt; the death;

!! B.        Are you doing something that will cause you to loose your testimony?

Lot Didn’t see Sorrow of Lingering

 *Genesis 19:15-16* And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

!! A.        Folks linger about salvation: 

*Isaiah 55:6* Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 

*Luke 12:20* But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

!! B.        Folks linger about separation:  and sin's grip sets on like a vice:  

*2 Corinthians 6:17*  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

What craving are you fostering in your life at this moment?

!!! 2.      Lot fostered the world in the lives of his kids… his wife...   

!! C.         Folks linger about service:  

!!! 1.

Some of you listening are called of God to a ministry.

!!! 2.      But you’re lingering around making excuses and doing nothing.

!!! 3.      It won’t work my friend…

!!! 4.      Life is the most valuable commodity that there is… don’t waste it./

Lot Didn’t see the Seriousness of the Hour 

*Genesis 19:15-17* And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

!! A.        Most folks are just like Lot, they live life without ever seeking God in their decisions!! 

!!! 1.

I don’t know if you realize it or not, but America as a nation has consistently gone against God in this generation!

!! B.        God has to judge or apologize and He isn’t going to apologize!

*James 4:13* Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

*Proverbs 27:1*  Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

!! C.        What business do you have with the Lord that you are putting off today?  

*John 9:4*  I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

! IV.    God and His will and His work are not toys you can play around with… 

*Galatians 6:7* Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

! V.       Lot Didn’t see - Sinfulness of Having His Own Way  

*Genesis 19:29-32* And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

30And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

!! A.        Let’s nail this down.

!!! 1.      Lot wanted things his own way.

!!! 2.      His kids learned the same thing!

!!! 3.

He was not content with God.  

!!! 4.      Do you know anyone like this?

Fanny Crosby blinded as an infant as the result of an accident.

She lived to be over 90 years old.

She wrote many popular Christian songs and choruses...

When she was only eight years old, she wrote: / /

/Oh, what a happy child I am, although I cannot see./

/I am resolved that in this world, contented I will be./

/How many blessings I enjoy that other people don't./

/To weep and sigh because I'm blind--I cannot and I won't./

!! B.        Lot taught his daughters to sin; he introduced them to the environment of compromise.

!!! 1.      Oh God help us, are we guiltily of innocently taking our kids to a place of compromise? 

!!! 2.      Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind!

*Luke 17:32-33* Remember Lot's wife.

33Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

!! C.        Listen to this seriousness of this admonition:  

*Proverbs 1:24-31* Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: 30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

!! D.        You and I are not going to jerk God around.

We simply are not.

! VI.    Lot Didn’t See Sin’s Finished Picture!    

*Genesis 19:36-38* Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

!! A.        Who Does?

 *2 Peter 2:8* (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

!!! 1.      Guess what….. Right now you're training your grandkids and kids, and they may only be babies.

!!! 2.      What you are doing right now will ruin those kids and a lot of generations to come.

God help us!

!! B.        Adam and Eve didn’t realize they were plunging a whole Race into death, but they were...

*Romans 5:19* For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
