Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Terminus - a final point in space and time, an end or extremity ( the furthest point, or limit of something)
Many people are puzzled because the Title for the Messiah is Gods Son and in the Trinity the Son is distinguished from the Father.
So the confusing part is how can The Messiah who is God the Son be the Everlasting Father?
Several things must be noted when trying to wrestle with this question
God The Son in His essence is God.
Therefore He has all the attributes of God including eternality.
Since God is One ( even though He exists in three Persons), the Messiah is God.
John 10:38 “but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.””
John 10:30 “I and My Father are one.””
this doesnt mean they they are the same Person
The Father and Son are two persons within the Trinity
They have the closets possible unity in purpose
When you have absolute identity of wills that means you have absolute identity in nature
Jesus Christ are both one in Will and in nature with the Father they Both are God
John 20:28 “And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!””
Phil 2:6 “who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,”
Col 2:9 “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;”
John 14:9 “Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”
2. The title “Everlasting Father” is an idiom used to describe the Messiah’s relationship to time, Not His relationship to the Trinity.
Idiom - a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words (e.g., rain cats and dogs, see the light ).
When you think about the phrase “ The Ancient of Days” what comes to mind?
Its speaking about God the Father Dan 7:9 ““I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire;”
3. Perhaps Isaiah had in mind the promise of David 2 Sam. 7:16 , about the “foreverness:” of the kingdom which God promised would come through David line.
2 Sam 7:16 “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”
Whats does it mean that He is The Everlasting Father.
This means That Jesus is Gods final provision for man.
There is no plan B.
Theres no prophet who will be raised
