Luke 1:1–4 (ESV)
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
The Gospels are ment to be an orderly account to show us the life of Jesus
The gospels are not a full account of every sermon, every lesson, and every encounter.
Each author placed in their gospel what they saw as important.
Luke is different because he is writing not from his account of witnesses.
There is a movement in the christian world to only take the recorded words of Christ as gospel and try to take away all other parts of the Bible.
Because Jesus did not talk explicitly about Homosexuality, he must have been for it.
This is a false narrative because it takes away the knows foundation of Jesus belief.
we must have a understanding of the Old Testament in its entirety to understand Jesus’ belief.
The books after the gospel continue the teaching of Jesus, so we have to have a understanding of them as well
The Gospels were ment to be tools to guide us to a Christ like life.
You can not act like christ if you are not reading the gospels.
its not about living a nice life, its about living a life according to the gospel.
The Gospel is a major part of our foundation and if you don't have it
bring chair out see if someone will sit in it ( Call Sam if no one will)
John gives a great account of the meaning of the Gospel
John 1:1–18 (ESV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’ ”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
The Gospel Shines light into the darkness
Sin lies in the dark, the gospel is to shine light on our own sins
as we read the gospel we should see things that need to change about us
We tend to hide what God wants to fix
We can not fix our lives by keeping it in the dark
Our path can be covered in darkness
The Gospel is to be a light to our feet
you can not see your path with out your light.
Darkness can not overcome the light as long as we are using the light
The enemy can only over come us when we allow it
the world can only over come the faith when we allow it
Our walk with God come in jeopardy only when we allow it.
With the Gospel first We can not be overtaken.
The Gospel shows the process of salvation
We over complicate salvation
we want our salvation to be easy but others to be difficult
we tend to not want to extend the same grace to other that God gave to us.
Salvation is based only on true belief
not just believing in jesus but believe in his teaching
not just believing that scripture is right but believing that we need to be in it.
True belief means we accept it all
The Gospel offers Grace
Grace is not fair
Grace is us getting what we do not deserve
we don't deserve forgiveness
we don't deserve salvation
we don't deserve heave
but God has grace on us
Because grace is not fair for us, our grace for others should be equally unfair.
The Gospel was Meant for you. Will you accept it today
Who needed to hear this
who is trying to hid in the dark and God is saying its time for you to go
Who is over complicating salvation and needed to know that salvation is now what we do but what we truly believe
who need to know that grace is given to each of us
then today is your day.
