Intro

Good afternoon everyone
My Name is one of the pastors
Priviedge of saying a few words about Bob
I did not have the priviledge of meeting Bob officially even though our paths probably crossed more than once in these halls
I do however know some folks who did
and I have had the pleasure of hearing many stories about Bob
One thing that stood out to me is the faithfulness of Bob
He was faithful in his love for his family his two boys his three girls and his wife
All of his grandchildren
and all of his great grand children
Faithful to to the carpenters union
A master carpenter in his own right
Bob was faithful to his profession
Faithful in his love for the cubs
in fact a lifetime member of the cubs fan club
Faithful to serve our country in the Army
Faithful in serving his community and the children in it
As a baseball coach
A sunday school teacher
A helper at kids club
and most importantly Faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ
Today we can celebrate Bob’s life because it was a life well lived
A life full of love for others
And love for his savior
His faithfulness is a small and I am sure imperfect example of the faithfulness of his Lords
Bob Love and faithfulness stemed from his love and faithfulness to the Lord
And today we celebrate his receiving of his reward for that faithfulness
Read John 14:1-7
John 14:1–7 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Today we celebrate because Bob has made his way to the fathers house
To the room prepared for him
We are comforted because the God Bob served is a faithful one
And like Bob when he says something it will be done
Bob had a dream of living in california and building his own house
He accomplished that
His Lord and Savior says that he will prepare a room for us at his father’s house
John 14:2 ESV
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
And we have assurance that of this truth
Jesus Christ himself says to his followers I am preparing a place for you
Your hearts dont need to be troubled
You have just one thing to do believe in God believe in Jesus
John 14:1 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
Bob believed in God and in his son
And in the power of his son’s death and resurrection
And because of this those of us that call ourselves Christians have assurance that we have a place at the fathers house
We have assurance of this great promise because we know Jesus Christ
Because we know the one who made the promise
Because we are convinced just as Bob was of what Jesus says in verse 6
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
This promise is made to all those who look at these words and become convinced that the only way for us to know our creator God is through Jesus
And this promise is extended to all those who dont know Jesus its a call to come and know him
A call to look and investigate and work to understand who this man is who makes this promise
this promise that we have a place in the fathers house if we only believe
We can mourn the lose of Bob today but have a comfort in the fact that he is in his heavenly fathers house
In his fathers house singing with his beautiful voice songs of praise to his creator
Seeing clearly his creator while he praises him
And we can have this comfort Because Bob believed in God and he knew Jesus Christ
We can all have this comfort this assurance
The same assurance that Bob had
If we believe
just believe simple in statement
profound in implecation
we must know him jesus christ
a lifetime of faithfulness to him
as bob represented to us
I hope and pray that each and every one of you knows and believe that Jesus Christ is the only way
the only truth
the only way to life eternal in the fathers house
we can have eternal life because Jesus Christ died and rose again
as this next hymn states because he live we have hope we have a future with our Heavenly Father
1 Corinthians 9:24 ESV
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
