Intro: Have you ever been to Church camp in triple digits with what fills like 100 percent humidity and mosquitos the size of taradactles. That is where I’m headed to night.

But you remember the last day you were at work out side sweating all day, dying of thirst and one thing on your mind being Water. Water to drink and water to bath in so you can feel refreshed and have a good night sleep. It feels so good to be clean after you were so dirty, and sweaty.

What about Spiritually, you remember when you arose out of that water of baptism and you felt like you could take on Goliath and conquer the world after putting to death all those dirty sins and now your a new man. In John 15:3 we see the phrase “ye are clean”. So today I want to talk about how we become clean.

vs 1-2 The Word adds us to the Vine.
vs 3-7 The Word makes us clean.
vs 8-11 The Word makes us fruitful.
Thesis: Jesus Christ dwells in a Christian when they have the Word of God in them, which causes them to be clean, and fruitful; so we must get into the Word till the Word gets into US.
VS 1-2 The Word adds us to the Vine.
I Am the True Vine
This is the 7th “I AM” statement in John.
the bread
the light
the gate
the good shepherd
the resurrection
the way, truth and life
I AM THE TRUE VINE
Jeremiah 2:21 “Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?”
Jesus Saying He is the one and true Vine. In the OT the Children of Israel were a symbol of the Vine, but they had fallen away to what Jeremiah says the strange vine. A foreign, fake or adulterous vine.
Paul in Romans 11 talks about how the children of Israel were the natural branches but the Gentiles had been grafted in. We today would be considered the Gentiles and have been grafted onto the vine through Baptism
The Vine can also be viewed as the Body of Christ. We see in:
Ephesians 1:22-23 Jesus is the head over all things to the church, Which is his body.
Ephesians 4:4-5 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,”
Ephesians 5:23 “ Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.”
end of vs 1 we see God is the Husbandman.
He is the Farmer, the One who owns the Garden the vine is planted in. He is the One who mends the garden which includes taking care of the vine, watering, feeding, pruning, and weeding
vs 2 Every Branch that does not bear fruit. God removes.
Every branch that bear fruit God then prunes, that it may produce more fruit.
Do we have any farmers in Here?
you probably prune your trees, specially fruit trees to get better crop.
but whether it be trees, vines, or even vegetables, pruning can help with production.
Ghost peeper Illustration.
Now lets look at what God has removed?
vs 3-7 The Word makes us clean.
Now you are clean!! What does Jesus mean by Now?
ch 13:10-11
Then we see Judas leave in 13:27, and he is no longer with them anymore. so now its the 11 Disciples.
Now Judas is gone, Now its the 11 disciples, they are possibly still in the upper room, and Jesus saying Now you are ll clean! You were not all earlier.
How are they clean?? Through the Word of God!!
Remember Judas has not yet betrayed Him but fixing to, he had stopped following Jesus and His Word in Ch 12:4-6 John lets us know he was robbing from the money bag. He was a thief.
So if we fall away from following the Word, we no longer are clean, and God will cut us off the Vine.
Once saved always saved Doctrine is shut down.
The Word of God is powerful, able to Pearce the heart of man. It makes men clean.
Romans 10:17 KJV 1900
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Mark 16:16 KJV 1900
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Luke 13:5 KJV 1900
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Mark 16:16 KJV 1900
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
The steps of salvation all are centered around obedience to the Word of God!
Meaning Baptism is the obedience to the Word, but it just the beginning. There is much more required of a Christian. That is the whole reason there is a second part of the great commission!!
Matthew 28:18–20 (KJV 1900)
Step 1: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Step 2: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
If Baptism was all you needed then why would a person need to learn ALL THINGS????
Its the Word of God that makes you clean!!! Its the Word of God that makes you realize you are a sinner and need God to confess and repent.
Its the Word of God that gets you to the baptistery or the water to be fully submersed for remission of sin.
It is the WORD: Rom 6:3-5, Rom 12:2, Psalm 1:1-3.
John 15:4 KJV 1900
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
We Abide in Jesus through His WORD!
Jesus abides in us through His WORD.
The branch cannot produce fruit unless it is of the vine
Meaning: With out Gods Word we cannot produce fruit and can not be a part of the vine!!!
John 15:5 KJV 1900
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Jesus is the vine and we are the branches;
If we abide in Jesus we will bring much fruit
Without Jesus we can do nothing but rot, will be gathered like sticks and burned in hell fire as seen in verse 6
John 15:7 KJV 1900
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
IF- the big IF means you may not but if you do abide Jesus, then Jesus shall abide with you.
You shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you..
Meaning if you are living according to the WOrd of God, then God will answer your prayers when you ask!! May not be one your time, but on His..
So what does this mean for a Christian??? It means we need to get into the Book until the Book gets into us. Then we will have Jesus in our hearts!!!
Jesus is not something you can pray into your hearts but something you must study into your hearts.
then you shall bear fruit
then you shall have prayers answered
3. vs 8-11 The Word makes us fruitful.
John 15:8 KJV 1900
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
God is glorified when we bear fruit!
When we are full-filling the great commission then God is glorified.
When we continue to plant, and water, God continues to gives the increase, and is glorified.
Always give the credit where credit is due to the Father!
Part of being a disciple is making more disciples.
John 15:9–11 KJV 1900
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
God and Jesus love you : when you keep His commandments. (THE WORD)
We will abide in them through obedience to the WORD
These things I have said so my joy MIGHT remain in you!!!!! MIGHT, not saying you will abide, saying you might obey through His Word.
BUT saying if you do you MIGHt be FULL!!
Conclusion: We Have seen we are clean through the Word of God.
If we abide according to the Word then we will be part of the Body of Christ where all Spiritual blessing are, we will have access to Gods Grace, will have access to redemption, we will have access to forgiveness of sins.
We will be fruitful, we will be fruitful because Gods Word is in us so much we can do nothing but speak it, we can do noting but live it, We have a fire in our bones like Jeremiah. A fervent Spirit like we see in Rom 12:11.
Having Gods Word in our hearts will not only save our souls but will cause us to be fruitful because we have the nourishment of the Lord feeding us through the Word to seek and save the lost. Get into the Word until the WORD gets into you.
Like Marshall Keeble said: a man is not saved and then Baptized. A woman doesn't wash laundry because they are already clean. Ive seen a lot of smart woman but not that smart. She washes the cloths because there dirty. Man is baptized because he’s is dirty and needs to be cleaned… It is the Word that leads the man to this conclusion!!
If you are not yet a Christain?
Why tarriest thou Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins , calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16.

be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
We must remain faithful through the WOrd of God to receive that crown
Maybe you have not been living according to the word?
Maybe you could use the prayers of the congregation?
We want you to leave here today with hope, by having your branch grafted back to the vine.
By abiding in Jesus through His WORD.
