And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
WELL DIGGERS
Well - A water well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, boring, or drilling to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn by a pump, or using containers, such as buckets, that are raised mechanically or by hand.
Water - a colorless, transparent, odorless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
It was like leaving the old path for something new, but now it time to go back.
There is not nearly as much written in the Scripture about Isaac as there is about Isaac’s father, Abraham, and about Isaac’s son Jacob.
But what is written of Isaac is most instructive.
One of the things written about him had to do with wells.
Our title sums up the details of Isaac’s well digging.
It speaks of three things about the wells.
FIRST—THE DIGGING OF THE WELLS
“Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father.” Digging is hard work. Digging a well was especially hard work in those days.
They did not have machinery to help dig a well.
You did it the old-fashioned way of hauling the dirt by hand.
Wells were deep and this required much perspiration in the digging.
Good things do not come without effort.
Labor not lofting produces blessing. God has a habit of giving his blessings to those who are not afraid of work.
“The best way to fit ourselves for great things … is to bend our back and wills to humble toil” (Maclaren).
If you are short on success maybe the reason is your unwillingness to labor.
Many folk like the commandment about resting on the Sabbath but seem to not realize that the command came with a condition, namely,
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Many times we want to build a church without work. (Soul winning, prayer, visiting, loving your neighbor, giving, paying tithe an so on...
SECOND—THE STOPPING OF THE WELLS
“The Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham.”
There are always people in world society who oppose the good.
They are non-diggers.
Such people seem to have the news media and politicians on their side.
Modern day Philistines stop the wells of the Gospel with the dirt of:
1. modernism that denies the virgin birth,
2. the inspiration of the Scripture,
3. the deity of Christ,
4. the need of salvation by all, and other important truths.
Modern day Philistines stop the wells
1. of holiness by their filthy pornography
2. dirty magazines.
Modern day Philistines in our churches stop the wells
1. of every program to advance the water of life to needy souls.
THIRD—THE NAMING OF THE WELLS

“He called them after the names by which his father had called them.” Abraham had given the wells some good names and Isaac would revive the names.
The lesson is that we need to get back to using the same terminology our forefathers used.
We need to call sin by its right names.
Abortion - is pro-murder not pro-choice.
Homosexuality - is an abominable lifestyle not an alternative lifestyle.
Gambling - is wicked and harms society. It does not help society as the politicians think.
Political-correct terminology is not holy terminology.
It is wicked terminology that would take Christ out of Christmas and God out of the schools.
The old names were truthful, not deceitful.
The time has come to unstop your well that have been filled with sin, and the things of this world.
