We live in a world self promotes. Social Media is a great tool but it can be used for self promotion. We can get trapped thinking that my value is based on what other’s think about me.
Jude is writing us as a word of caution. Be careful and be aware of the things that influence you.
Jude 3–4 NIV
3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
That can influence our speech, our attitude, how we treat others. Do we see other people as those created in God’s image?
No One is better then anyone. We are all on the same level… sinners in need of forgiveness, we are in need of healing and that’s why Jesus came… HE came for the sick and the sinner.
When we forget our need and look to our own ability and resources instead of the Lord’s. Pride and selfishness will influence us.
Jude 16 NIV
16 These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
Jude calls them out and exposes the heart of pride and sin. When the world influences people it’s all about the person but when God influences us we going to be different.
These people are grumblers, faultfinders, always negative. But that’s who we aught not to be… we are called to be different.
Jude 17–21 NIV
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Jude 22–23 NIV
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
We will all stand before the Lord and give an account for every word and every action.
Respond with urgency don’t be afraid to confront sin in the church. We don’t have all the answers but we can come before the Lord because HE is able… He is always enough.
Jude 24–25 NIV
24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
God is able to keep you from stumbling.
God is able to forgive you and purify you and make you whole and healed.
It’s no longer about us… It’s about surrendering our life to the one who has all majesty, power and authority for ever.
Let Jesus be glorified through you. God will not share HIS glory so don’t try to take it away.
