2 Timothy 3:15–17 NKJV
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
If Satan has attacked any aspect of the church it has been the Word of God.
Even today the church faces criticism from both without and within.
There are attacks against its sufficiency, relevancy, authenticity, and the sanity of those who believe and obey it.
For the world it is is a source of hatred and bigotry. Yet, for the church it our source of life, hope, and wisdom.
If there is a falling away of the church it is do to the neglect of the Bible. Let me say this evening, “The Bible does not need need to be re-written, it needs to be re-read.”
If the Lord is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.
John MacArthur said,
Even though the bible is an ancient document, every person in every situation in every society that s ever existed can find in this book things that endure forever. Here is a book that never needs another edition. It never needs edited, never has to updated, is never out of date or obsolete. It speaks to us as pointedly and directly as it ever has to anyone in any century since it was written. It’s so pure that it last forever.
We need to fall in love with the Word of God all over again.

I. It has creating power.

In Genesis 1:1 we see that in the beginning ELOHIM created. The word Elohim is a masculine plural noun and signifies that there was more than one God. John 1:1 says,
John 1:1 NKJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
It is the word of God that created the heavens and earth and everything that is contained within them.
Psalm 146:5–6 NKJV
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever,
It is God who is the giver of life and everything belongs to him.
We see that throughout the creation narrative God spoke and the worlds came into existence. It is at the Word of God that our universe was birthed and it is his Word that is the sustainer of life.

II. It has continuing power.

The Word of God will last forever. It may be old but it is not outdated. It may be ancient but it is eternal.
Isaiah 40:8 NKJV
The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
Psalm 100:5 NKJV
For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
I want you to know this evening that the Word of God is just effective and essential today as it has ever been.
The SBC is in trouble this morning, not because the Word of God is lacking but because we are lacking the Word of God.
Our churches in America are dying not because the blood of Jesus has grown cold but because our pulpits have walked away from the Word of God.
Our only hope is to return to the Word of God that stands forever.

III. It has counseling power.

2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
I am not against counseling, psychology, or self-help. But these are only as good as they are scripturally reliable.
Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Don’t wait until all else fails to turn to the Bible. The Word of God is our first resort not our last option.

IV. It has communicating power.

1 Corinthians 1:18–24 (NKJV)
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,
but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
It is
