Intro:
Good morning I found a video I wanted to show you so you could get a visual on what we are getting ready to read
Show video
This is how they interrogate for their truth, to garner support from those who would turn on Jesus. But many would not turn from THE Truth but would hold to what they knew to be Truth. The problem with truth these days is that, as it was then, many people seek a “truth” that fits their desires in life but don’t seek the real Truth. For the Truth is not hidden but plain to see, but even Jesus knew they would be every seeing and never perceiving. It was the same for these Pharisees, the question this morning is, can I stick to the Truth of scripture even though it could cost me everything. Lets take a look at whats going on here. It begins in John 9:12

Telling the Truth

A. Just Say What You Know
John 9:12–15 NASB95
They said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.” They brought to the Pharisees the man who was formerly blind. Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. Then the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
1. No need to go further than the truth
a. Even when you don’t know, say you don’t know
b. Stick to what the Truth was
i. Never has to remember the Truth, it just is
c. Truth will set you free
John 8:32 NIV
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
i. Never have to worry about the Truth
ii. And it will bring you peace in spirit if not in the flesh
2. The Truth will divide
John 9:16 NIV
Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.
a. Jesus is consistent
i. Doing good on Shabbat
ii. Not bowing to their pressure
b. Remaining on mission
c. So they are divided
i. Have to choose between tradition and truth
Matthew 15:3 NIV
Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
ii. A traditional understanding of the Law instead of the Truth
iii. Divided because they didn’t want to give up what they had, didn’t want to change toward God
B. Stick to the Truth
1. Even under scrutiny
John 9:17 NIV
Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied, “He is a prophet.”
a. Not a popular saying among the Pharisees
b. They were pressuring him for their own sake
i. They wanted his story to meet their narrative and not Gods
ii. Stick to the Truth even when the World hates you
John 15:18 NIV
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
2. Even when other’s wont stand with you
John 9:18–23 NASB95
The Jews then did not believe it of him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight, and questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?” His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.” His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue. For this reason his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
a. People will fear the Truth
i. Because they will have to pick a side
ii. They will have to confess
b. Give up the physical
i. give up relationships
ii. given up comforts

Standing in Faith

A. Give glory to God
John 9:24–25 NASB95
So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, “Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.” He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
1. Only by telling the Truth
a. Brought in two times
i. Pressuring him to change his story
b. We know
i. If they knew why do they need him
ii. Besides they haven’t given any proof
Deuteronomy 19:15 NASB95
“A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed.
iii. They are looking for people to agree with them
Kinda like Tiktok and Facebook of the first century. Just trying to get enough voices to agree with them so they have the mobs power.
c. This man has facts on his side
i. No need to change the Truth
2. Even when it gets you in trouble
John 9:26–28 NASB95
So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” He answered them, “I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?” They reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
a. The man is on to them
b. He offers them a piece of the Truth and they reject him
B. Not Everyone will believe
John 9:29–33 NIV
We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.” The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
1. Truth will shake the foundation of life
a. They admit the truth
i. They have no idea who He is
ii. They have no idea what Jesus is about
b. When we stick to the Truth lies fall apart
i. Truth cannot be shaken but lies can
ii. Stick to the Truth, especially of the Gospel
c. Reason will not encourage a false man
i. They still think he is nuts
ii. Even when he uses logic
2. Hold tight even when it costs you
John 9:34 NIV
To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.
a. They cast him out of the assembly
i. Cannot give sacrifice
ii. As good as condemned
b. This mans life had changed
i. Everyone had forsaken him because of the Truth
ii. Yet he stuck to the Truth and God honors that in us
c. In a world of lies and inconsistent beliefs we can stick to the unchanging truth of God
