The Signs and Authority of Jesus

It applies primarily to the festival that recalled the event of the exodus, when the angel of death passed over the homes of the Israelites and struck the firstborn son in all Egyptian homes (Exod.

Purpose: John 2:23
John is telling us that many believed in the name of Jesus as they were observing the signs which Jesus was doing.
I.
In cleansing the temple, Jesus showed zeal to preserve the honor due to God. (John 2:13-16)
- The temple has to be kept Holy, set-apart for the purpose of worship not a place of business.
- The temple belongs to God and it must be used according to how God designed it to be used.
Today, the Jerusalem temple does not exist anymore.
It was destroyed on AD 70 as fulfilled by the prophecy of Jesus
The historian Josephus actually witnessed the siege and aftermath, and said…
“Now as soon as the army had no more people to slay or to plunder, because there remained none to be the objects of their fury, Titus Caesar gave orders that they should now demolish the entire city and Temple…”
Other than a few towers and forts for the Roman garrison, everything was destroyed.
“It was so thoroughly laid even with the ground by those that dug it up to the foundation, that there was left nothing to make those that came thither believe Jerusalem had ever been inhabited.”

In the NT, the temple (Sanctuary) where God resides is the church 1 Cor.
3:16-17(assembly of believers) and in the believers body 1 Cor.
6:19.
Application:
Set your body/life apart for God’s purposes - let your bodies be living sacrifices (as opposed to dead sacrifice)
II.
Jesus fulfilled his prophecy of “Bodily Resurrection” (John 2:18-22)
Application:
- We can trust the Words of Jesus - We can trust His Holy Word the Bible.
- Since Jesus overcome the grave, those who believed in him will also overcome the grave.
III.
Jesus is all-knowing (John 2:24-25)
Application:
- Do not make the mistake of thinking that you can hide something from Jesus!
- Remember that Jesus knows what is in your heart.
He knows if you believe in Him
He knows if you have doubt in Him
Jesus knows everything about you - even the smallest sins that you are hiding.
he knows all that!
But do not despair!
God gave us a way to be saved from the punishment of sin!
Jesus came to die for sinners!
(Romans 5:8)
Jesus is inviting the restless, hopeless, hell-bound sinners to come to Him for rest and salvation (Matthew 11:27-29)
