This Week’s Theme: Don’t Live Against God!
Memory Verse: Proverbs 13:15 “Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard.”
This Week’s Word is Rejection: It is rebellion against God’s authority, purpose and instruction and results in the rejection of God’s servants and, ultimately, in the rejection of his Son.
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: Ahab lived his life in opposition to the will of God.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to fully surrender to God through Christ.
Sermon Text: 1 Kings 16:29-33; 1 Kings 21:25-26
1 Kings 16:29–33 NKJV
29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30 Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. 31 And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 32 Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33 And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.
1 Kings 21:25–26 NKJV
25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up. 26 And he behaved very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
INTRODUCTION: YEARS AGO A MOVIE CAME OUT CALLED INDECENT PROPOSAL. IN THE MOVIE A WEALTHY STRANGER OFFERS A STRUGGLING COUPLE ONE MILLION DOLLARS SO THAT HE CAN SLEEP WITH THE WIFE. THE MOVIE IS REALLY TESTING A PERSONS MORALS BY ASKING THE QUESTION, “ARE YOU FOR SALE?” OR “HOW MUCH ARE YOU WORTH?”
IS YOUR FAITH FOR SALE?
THE BIBLE SAYS IN Matthew 16:26 (NKJV) “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
THIS MORNING WE WILL SEE HOW KING AHAB ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS AND DEDUCE HOW WE OUGHT TO ANSWER THESE QUESTION
Sermon Proposition: Saints should give themselves up to do what is right in the sight of the LORD.

I. CHECK YOUR WALKING

EXPLANATION: Ahab chose to walk in the ways of Jeroboam. Just a reminder, sought to worship Yahweh his way.
He set up two golden calves and acted as if they represented Yahweh.
Exodus 20:4–5 NKJV
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Exodus 20:3 NKJV
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
1 Kings 16:32 NKJV
32 Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

ILLUSTRATION:

III. CHECK YOUR WAYS

1 Kings 21:20, 25; 18:4, 18-19, 45-46; 21:7; 20:13, 28;
1 Kings 21:20 NKJV
20 So Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” And he answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord:
DID YOU HEAR IT? AHAB SOLD HIMSELF TO DO EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD
What does this mean? To give oneself up to. Ahab put himself up to do evil. He voluntarily presented put his mind, emotions, desires, and actions (himself) up for sell.
Ahab did not turn down evil advice, actions, etc. but accepted it.
AHAB YIELDED HIS MEMBERS AS INSTRUMENTS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS
1 Kings 21:25 NKJV
25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up.
1 Kings 18:4 NKJV
4 For so it was, while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.)
1 Kings 18:18–19 NKJV
18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals. 19 Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
1 Kings 21:7 NKJV
7 Then Jezebel his wife said to him, “You now exercise authority over Israel! Arise, eat food, and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”
EXPLANATION:
1 Kings 18:45–46 NKJV
45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 46 Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
1 Kings 20:13 NKJV
13 Suddenly a prophet approached Ahab king of Israel, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’ ”
1 Kings 20:28 NKJV
28 Then a man of God came and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because the Syrians have said, “The Lord is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valleys,” therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’ ”
AHAB WAS . . .
DIRTY BY DEPRAVITY,
GRIMY BY GREED,
NASTY BY NAUGHTINESS
FILTHY BY FOOLISHNESS,
CONTAMINATED BY CORRUPTION
POLLUTED BY PRIDE
SOILED BY SELFISHNESS,
& STAINED BY SIN
HE HAD disrespect for the holy
. . . disregard for the pure
. . . disdain for the virtuous
. . . disinterest for the blessed
. . . dissatisfaction with the eternal
1 Kings 21:20–24 NKJV
20 So Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” And he answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord: 21 ‘Behold, I will bring calamity on you. I will take away your posterity, and will cut off from Ahab every male in Israel, both bond and free. 22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and made Israel sin.’ 23 And concerning Jezebel the Lord also spoke, saying, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.’ 24 The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field.”
1 Kings 21:27 NKJV
27 So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.
