Trust in the Waiting

Psalm 27:13-14 (NRSV)
Psalm 27:13–14 NRSV
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
Psalm 27 was written by David when he was escaping from King Saul and had to go from place to place to escape his vengeance. Saul was overcome with hatred for David when he realized that God was going to make David the next king and this was not the plan Saul had in mind. From that point Saul made it his assignment to kill David so the promise of God would not come to fruition.
As David fled he prayed in the temples, caves, and deserts. This Psalm came out of these moments and while he waited for the Lord to deliver him he trusted his faithful God . I want to talk to us today about Trust in the waiting.
Trust is a word that we like to through around in my opinion willy nilly sometimes. When we tell someone that we trust you to come through with what you said and you do not follow through that trust begins over time to dwindle if you keep breaking your promises. Trust is says is an assured alliance on the character, the ability, strength , or truth of someone or something. One in which confidence is placed. We know here in the scripture today David trusted his God and put all his faith and reverence in him in time of trouble in his like. He know his Father was going to be there in his time of need whenever he called on him to deliver him from whatever trouble or issue he either got himself into, or was brought upon him because this is what God had placed in his life for him just to see who he will put his trust in God or his own strength and mind. When we trust in the waiting it may not be clear to us that the Father is near. You have to have an assurance that he will come and be there for you when you least expect it.
Let’s look at it like this. We all had a father rather in the picture or not we all had a father. Some of us waited with confidence for our father’s to show up when we needed their support the most, right? We looked for them to be at our basketball games, our football games, track meets, while we cheered on the team as a cheerleader. We looked for them to be home and provide and protect us. We had a confidence in the or father’s to do all those things yes? But what happens when that does not happen? When you are waiting for your father to show up and he doesn’t? Over time the trust is broken and you start to deal with the issues of being fatherless the best way you can.
I am here today to tell you of a Father that will never leave you nor forsake you. A Father whom you can put all your trust and confidence in when your are in trouble, at your wits end, or even just need that comfort in your life. David had confidence in the Father. He said in verse 1 of Psalm 27:1
Psalm 27:1 NRSV
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Our strength comes from the presence of God in these moments. David was running for his life to survive someone who wanted to devour his calling. But he did not give power to King Saul, no he gave power to the one he know could save his life. There are times that we must not give our power over to man the helped give us life, if it is a life of abandonment and strife. No we give our attention over to the one who gives us a hope in this life which is God the Father. He will bring those who have a character like him into your life to help guide you, yet you have to trust Him in the waiting.
When we trust God in the waiting he will deliver you from your fears and enemies that surround you because you have the confidence in God the Father to deliver you from it. He will hear you when you call out his name in the temple. Not just the physical temple but the temple he gave you to live this life out in. I am reminded of my time when I needed the Father to deliver me from the death of my son. It was a waiting period that I had to go through before the outcome was brought to light. Yet God was a faithful God. Why, because he delivered and answered my prayer while I was waiting. I cried out like David to acknowledge to the Father that he is my light and salvation, that he is the strong hold of my life, that he will deliver me from what the enemy meant for evil God meat it for my good. How you say because I had to trust God in the waiting of the darkest time and of my life, and yet he delivered me in peace through a tragic moment in my life. I was in the presence of God and his strength carried me through. There will come a time in your life if you have not already experienced it that you will have to wait on and trust the Father to bring you out from amongst what is trying to destroy you. Yet, while you are waiting call out to the Lord because he has not left you as it may seem. Ask the Father to teach you his ways and trust him. Man will fail you every time but the Father will never fail. He will be there when you call upon his name and when you seek him you will find him.
Let’s go back to when we are looking for our natural father or father figure. Isn’t it a great feeling when you look out in the crowd and you can see the one who pushed you to be the best you that you can be? Is is not a great feeling that the promise what kept and the trust what not broken? Well guess what, there will come a day where that may happen and what are you going to do? You are not going to give up because the Father did not give up on you. We are going to try and see the goodness in them and trust in the waiting that they will come through the next time.
While we are waiting is can get a little tiring and we want to just through in the towel. But we read earlier in Isaiah 40:30-31
Isaiah 40:30–31 NRSV
Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
When we wait on him he will make us to fly like eagles and sore high above the clouds against all pressures of life and succeed in all he has placed in our hands. Trust in the waiting and I assure you that God the faithful God will deliver, give confidence, strengthen, and give you courage to fight on. There is a song by Juinita Bynum that says, I don’t mind waiting, I don’t mind waiting, I don’t mind waiting on the Lord. Why do I not, why should you not mind waiting on God because he will come through each and every time you call. The waiting may be agonizing yet God says I have you just trust in me and wait for your deliverance and in that waiting you must still be doing something just as David did. The Father found him waiting in the temple crying out to him and God heard his cry and prayer and delivered him from the pains of the world.
We need to have trust in the waiting men and women of God. We need to trust that while it may not look good wait for God to answer. It may not be he way you want the answer to be but I guarantee you God the Father will come running to his child to encourage the heart and strengthen you in your time of need. The Father will love on you if you seek him. All he wants to know is, do you trust him while you are waiting for him to work our your situation. Do you trust God to know what he is doing in your life is not to harm you but to prosper you and to help you to rely on the Father that will always be around even when the natural father is no longer here or was never there.
Trust in the waiting and shout out to Father with a loud voice that he is your light, that he is your salvation, that you reverence him and only him in the time of need. That he is the stronghold that keeps you and you will not be afraid. And most of all the hope and joy of all this waiting on the Father with all that you can trust him with is that you believe that you will see the goodness of God in the land that you live in now and you don’t have to wait til you see him in glory. The good news and hope is that when you trust in the waiting the Lord will make you strong, he will bring courage do your heart, he will heal and deliver you from your adversaries, he will raise you up and help you to fly high like an eagle. All you have to do is trust him in the waiting. Wait on the Lord, yes wait on him and he will bring you through.
