DANIEL PRAYS FOR ISRAEL
INTRODUCTION
Daniel had an-understanding of events related to his time-period through reading God’s Word,
Dan 9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the
word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the
desolations of Jerusalem.
Daniel understood that it was time for the fulfillment of what God said He would do for Israel
When the 70 years are accomplished, then God will visit with God’s good word, Jer 29:10 For
thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and
perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
Daniel was studying God’s Word for the purpose of living according to God’s Word (Are we?)
Many people today get excited about studying prophecy and learning the events of the future
But they don’t get excited about living for Christ today and preparing for the future
Understanding Biblical prophecy should motivate us to live for Christ daily
If it doesn’t then we don’t really understand what we are reading
We must understand how important it is to share the gospel of salvation with the lost today,
2Co 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured
thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Pay attention to the emphasis, “Behold, Behold,” “behold now, behold now”
Listen now, pay attention now, the time is “now,” now is the day of salvation
Today is the day that God will hear the prayer of a repentant sinner seeking salvation
Today the field is white unto harvest, Joh 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh
harvest?
behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to
harvest.
“Fields” is plural, fields are in every direction that we can look, look first at our community
We must not waste away the opportunity of today, Joh 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me,
while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
The time known as the day of salvation will come to an end and the Day of the Lord will begin
The day of God’s grace upon a sinful world will end and the day of God’s wrath will begin
Dare to be a “Daniel,” pay attention to God’s Word and seek the Lord’s will, pray like Daniel
Dan 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting,
and sackcloth, and ashes:
Daniel set his “face unto the Lord God,” God had his attention, Daniel had read God’s Word
Daniel believed what he had read, he took it literally, and his attention turned to prayer
“To seek by prayer,” understanding todays current events should cause us to “seek by prayer”
Someone has estimated that 125 verses in Daniel identify with his prayer life
Many sermons have been preached from Daniel’s experience in the Lion’s den (Daniel 6)
Sermons encouraging Christians today to be like Daniel, “dare to be a Daniel”
Be of the Christian character of Daniel, his courage, commitment, and faith, which we need today
Which will never happen until we dare to pray like Daniel, “to seek by prayer”
“And supplications,” the word is plural, indicating several points of emphasis
Daniel’s sincerity, his all-out earnest effort, strongly pleading with God, his state of humility

All of which is identified “with fasting,” Daniel’s denial of self in-order to focus upon God
Daniel was determined that nothing would distract him as he prayed
He was determined to give no attention to anything other than prayer as he came before God
“Sackcloth” identified with Daniel’s mourning and despair because of his people, Israel
Sackcloth also pictured Daniel’s total dependence upon God, he knew he needed God’s guidance
“Ashes” signified his grief, humility, and self-denial, he sincerely grieved over the state of Israel
“Ashes” were put upon the head to indicate the mourning of the soul and commitment of heart
Sackcloth and ashes were an outward sign of the inward state of Daniel’s heart
Daniel’s heart was like the heart of David when he prayed, Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
God is still waiting for His people to seek His face and come before him with a committed heart,
2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.
Daniel was praying and confessing his sins because he wanted to “hear from heaven”
How strong is our desire to hear from Heaven today?
Are we ready to hear from heaven yet?
Your present desire for learning and living the Bible will answer those questions
Do you really have a desire to live for Christ each-and every day?
If not, then you are not reading and understanding Biblical prophecy
America needs to experience God’s promise, “I will forgive their sin and heal their land”
Which goes with the promise we find in, James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray
one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much.
(Daniel’s prayer is an example for us, his prayer did accomplish much, Daniel 9:20-27)
The promise goes with what we find in Hebrews, Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts
sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Heb 10:23 Let us
hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Daniel knew that he was praying to his faithful God, who was faithful to keep His promises
Dan 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O
Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him,
and to them that keep his commandments;
Daniel said, “I prayed unto the LORD my God,” what a testimony, may it be true of us today
We talk about prayer every time we meet, we say we believe that prayer is the answer
Can we honestly look back at last week and say, “I prayed unto the LORD my God?”
Can we also honestly say, “And made my confession,” which means an acknowledgement
True confession is first-of all an acknowledgment of God, identifying His personal worthiness
God is worthy to be praised, 1Ch 16:34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his
mercy endureth for ever.
(“O give thanks” is the same word translated “confession” in Dan 9:4)
Psa 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful
unto him, and bless his name.
(“Be thankful” is the same word as “confession” in Dan 9:4)
True confession before God is an honest acknowledgment of God and then self, “I have sinned”
We must identify sin as God sees sin, agreeing with God, 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Confession is more than feeling sorrow because you got caught in your sin
