Intro

Has anyone here ever sat down and read a book of the bible in one sitting. And I’m not really talking about sitting down and reading Philemon or 2&3 John or any of the other books that consist of one chapter I’m talking about sitting down with a book like Romans and reading it from chapter 1 to chapter 16. When I was in college we were told to sit down and read the book of Judges cover to cover and let me tell you, that was an amazing experience. and you got to see a larger picture of what was going on.
Well the other day I decided to sit down and read the book of 2 Timothy front to back and as I was reading Chapter 2 really stuck out to me, because of how encouraging it is. And I think we all need some encouragement now and again.
Let’s read 2 Timothy 2:3-7
2 Timothy 2:3–7 ESV
3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
Now It’s important that we are encouraged to walk towards Christ and Paul uses these wonderful analogies to explain this to Timothy so I really want to focus and expand from this passage today.
