Bless the Lord, O My Soul
103 Of David.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10  He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13  As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
14  For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.
15  As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16  for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17  But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
18  to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
19  The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20  Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!
21  Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
his ministers, who do his will!
22  Bless the Lord, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!

*LET US PRAY

Prayer of Confession and Repentance
Our Father in heaven
Grant, Almighty God, that inasmuch as we are so disposed and inclined to all kinds of errors, to so many and so various forms of superstitions,
and as Satan also does not cease to lay in wait for us,
and spreads before us his many snares
Grant that we may be preserved in obedience to you by the teaching of your Word,
That we may never turn here and there,
Either to the right or to the left,
But continue in that pure worship which you have prescribed,
So that we may plainly testify that you are indeed our Father by continuing under the protection of your only begotten Son,
whom you have given to be our pastor and ruler to the end.
Who calls us to Worship the true and living God,
and gives rest unto those who labour and are heavy laden;
Who did come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.
Purify us from all uncleanness,
both bodily and spiritual,
and teach us to fulfill holiness in the fear and knowledge of you
That we might approach you with a pure conscience,
Through the Blood of your Son and our Savior alone.
In Christ name Amen

Assurance of Pardon

Col 2:13-14 “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”

Congregational Prayer
Grant, Almighty God, that since you daily exhort us,
and though you see us often turning aside from the the right path,
You are kind Father because you do not cease to stretch forth your hand to us,
and you also continue to wake us up us by many reproofs,
that we may repent—
Father grant that we may not be permitted to reject your Word with perverseness;
But rule us by your Spirit,
That we may meekly and obediently submit to you,
Help us to be teachable, so that if we have not been willing to head your correction,
That we may not continue in our sins.
Father help us to heed your spirits correction and allow you to heal our diseases so that we may truly repent,
Help us to be so wholly given to obey you, as never to attempt anything beyond the rule of your Word,
and help us to heed the wisdom which you have revealed to us, not only by Moses and your prophets,
but also by your only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

HERE NOW THE WORD OF THE LORD
TURN IN YOUR COPY OF GODS WORD TO 2 Kings 4:8-37 One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food. And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way. 10 Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.”
11 One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there. 12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite.” When he had called her, she stood before him. 13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘See, you have taken all this trouble for us; what is to be done for you? Would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.” 14 And he said, “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Well, she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15 He said, “Call her.” And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 And he said, “At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant.” 17 But the woman conceived, and she bore a son about that time the following spring, as Elisha had said to her.
Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son
18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers. 19 And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died. 21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out. 22 Then she called to her husband and said, “Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may quickly go to the man of God and come back again.” 23 And he said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath.” She said, “All is well.” 24 Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant, “Urge the animal on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” 25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.
When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite. 26 Run at once to meet her and say to her, ‘Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?’ ” And she answered, “All is well.” 27 And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to push her away. But the man of God said, “Leave her alone, for she is in bitter distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.” 28 Then she said, “Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me?’ ” 29 He said to Gehazi, “Tie up your garment and take my staff in your hand and go. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not reply. And lay my staff on the face of the child.” 30 Then the mother of the child said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So he arose and followed her. 31 Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the face of the child, but there was no sound or sign of life. Therefore he returned to meet him and told him, “The child has not awakened.”
32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. 33 So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the Lord. 34 Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm. 35 Then he got up again and walked once back and forth in the house, and went up and stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36 Then he summoned Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her. And when she came to him, he said, “Pick up your son.” 37 She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground. Then she picked up her son and went out.

TURN IN YOUR COPY OF GODS WORD TO Acts 9:32-43
Hear Now the Very Word of God
32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Dorcas Restored to Life
36 Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.

Acts 9:32-43 Jesus Christ Heals and Saves all those he Calls.

Vs 32-35 The Healing of Aeneas

This morning we pick back up with the Apostle Peter.
The last time Peter was mentioned in Acts was in Chapter Acts 8:25
Which says “Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.”
So Peter Returned to Jerusalem with John from their visit to Samaria.
We find him, taking advantage probably of the collapse of the recent persecution, that was caused by Saul before his conversion.
When Saul was dragging off Fathers and Mothers to the Chief Priests for following the way.
So Peter is now engaged in the ministry of visitation among the dispersed Christian communities of Judaea.
Which brings us to our narrative today.
There was one such community in Lydda.
This community was probably formed from the fugitives from the persecution in Jerusalem;
Lydda was at this time the center of the Judaean administrative district.
And Lydda is where we find Peter today in our Narrative.
Peter is visiting all the saints who lived their.
Probably encouraging the brothers after going through the persecution they just went through.
And in verse 34 the text tells us that Peter found this man Aeneas among these Christians that were just persecuted.
And this man is bedridden.
Children that means he is unable to get out of his bed.
And why is this?
Why can this man not get out of his bed?
Was it because he was lazy.
Did he just like to sleep in.
NO
He had been in his bed for eight years because he was paralyzed.
We are not told if it was just his legs that were paralyzed.
Was he a Para Pelagic
Was he a Quadra pelagic.
Did he require assistance eating.
We can’t be sure but we know he was confined to his bed for eight years of his life..
Think about that 8 years of his life.
We are not told how old the man was.
Whether he had an accident that made him this way.
I tend to think it was an accident that made him this way.
Because we know of other men in the book of Acts that were crippled their whole life From birth.
Do you remember the man in Acts chapter 3 at the beautiful gate.
The man that was healed by Peter as well

Lets look at chapter 3:1-11

Acts 3:1-11 “Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they wer…”
This man was raised by the power of Jesus Christ
I love that Peter said in this text
“I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
So called preachers that supposedly heal for money.
Or your generous donation
Or claim it has something to do with your faith that heals you or does not heal you.
Are what you might think they are frauds.
I would lump so called Faith Healers in with the Name it and Claim it crowd.
Stay away from such people they are wolves In sheeps clothing.
So back to Aeneas
His healing was genuine.
His healing was done by the Apostle Peter.
Documented in the Scriptures.
This healing really happened.
But Aeneas was not crippled from birth.
But he was crippled.
He was bed ridden.
But after 8 long years of struggling.
8 years of pain.
8 years of people helping him get food.
After 8 long years
Jesus Christ is going to heal Aeneas.
Peter a servant of Jesus says
“JESUS CHRIST HEALS YOU”!!!
Did you Hear what Peter said
“JESUS CHRIST HEALS YOU”!!!
And when Christ Heals a man
Or when Christ Calls a man to himself
The result is always the same the Man is then healed.
Whether Christ calls you out of your spiritual death.
When you are lost in the misery of sin in this life.
Or when Christ heals a person from a physical almeant.
Whether it be cancer, making the lame walk, casting out evil spirits of men.
We serve an all powerful God.
We serve a God that speaks and people come to life.
If Christ spoke the world into existence
and created man in 6 days and rested on the 7th.
Our Westminster Shorter Catecism declares in Question 10 & 11
About How God created Man and How he governs us in providence.

Question 10

How did God create man?
God created man male and female, after his own image, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, with dominion over the creatures. (Gen. 1:26–28, Col. 3:10, Eph. 4:24)

Question 11

What are God’ s works of providence?
God’ s works of providence are, his most holy, (Ps. 145:17) wise, (Ps. 104:24, Isa. 28:29) and powerful preserving, (Heb. 1:3) and governing all his creatures, and all their actions. (Ps. 103:19, Matt. 10:29–31)
I think Christ is able to heal a man that cannot walk.
Because Jesus Christ is all powerful.
Jesus Christ has the power to heal and to save those who are broken.
whether broken in your bodies.
Or broken in still being in spiritual darkness.
And needing to be healed by the great physician Jesus Christ.
And was Aeneas healed?
He was and to prove it Peter commands him to “Rise and make his bed”
What for?
For proof that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords Jesus Christ has the power to heal
And he rises and makes his bed.
We see this as a trend in the scriptures
we see similar events in
Mark 2:11 ““I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.””
And this miracle had a purpose not only for Aeneas.
But for the people the residents Lydda and Sharon saw him.
Did they see him and say wow I can’t believe your walking?
No they recognized it was a miracle and that the Lord had healed him.
And they turned to the Lord
They turned to Christ the great physician.
All that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
The Word of God says ALL the residents
Saw this healing
All the residents turned to the Lord.
And this is a fulfillment of Prophecy.
which was foretold of,
Sharon shall be a fold of flocks,

Isa. 65:10 “Sharon shall become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for my people who have sought me.”

For my people who have sought me
His sheep who are called by his name will hear the great shepherd and come to him in Sharon.
The Holy Spirit used this healing of this man to draw attention and to and draw all his sheep in Sharon to Faith in the true and living God.
Through Faith in the one that Heals
Jesus Christ.
They all made enquiry into the truth of the miracle,
They did not overlook it,
but saw him that he was healed,
and saw that it was a miraculous cure.
that was done to him by the power of Christ,
in the name of Christ,
and with a design to confirm and ratify that doctrine of Christ
which was now preached to the world.
These people submitted to the convincing proof and evidence of this mans healing.
and they turned to the Lord, to the Lord Jesus.
They turned from Judaism to Christianity;
they embraced the doctrine of Christ, and submitted to his ordinances,
and turned themselves over to him to be ruled and taught and saved by him.
So once Christ heals a man.
Once Christ Calls a man Or woman to himself.
You are called to die unto yourself
And live unto your king.
And Peter is fulfilling the great commission
This healing is done by Christ through Peter.
Peter is the vessel God is using

Jesus Christ Heals and Saves all those he Calls.

And after he heals you.
After he Saves you.
Does a disciple just live and do what they desire?
No
A Disciple when he is Healed does the will of his master.
The Word of God says when you are called by God you now have a duty to your Lord.
John 14:21 “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.””
Brothers and Sisters has Jesus Christ called you and healed you.
Has he redeemed you.
Do you love him?
Then keep his commandments.
Once you are healed by Christ.
The Spirit begins to Sanctify you.
You will love the Lords Day and set it aside to Worship your King.
You will give of your increase to the work of the Lord.
You will Love your wife more.
Wives you will love your husbands more.
Children when you come to faith in Christ you will be able to Honor your Fathers and Mothers more.
If you were a liar you will desire to tell the truth.
If you were a thief you will desire to rather work with your hands and give to those in need.
You see brothers and sisters.
Jesus Christ Heals and Saves all those he Calls.

And he does it in more ways than one.

Can I get Amen?
Is the Spirt confirming what Im saying with your Hearts and minds.
Christ is an Awesome Savior that not only Saves and heals but spurs us on to good works to our fellow man.
Which leads us into the next healing and the good works of a disciple called Dorcas.

Next in verses 36-43 Peter is going to not just heal a woman by the power of Christ.

Rather he is going to bring her back from the dead.
Lets read verses 36-43 again
Acts 9:36-43 “Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.”
So lots of things are happening in Lydda.
And apparently Tabitha is not always called by this name
She is also called Dorcas.
which both names mean gazelle in English.
Maybe she was a fast runner.
Or a fast seamstress.
Since it seems she made made the widows garments.
Dorcas is described as “always doing good and helping the poor,” which enhances the sadness of her death to those that knew her.
Let’s face it if someone is a real dirt bag of a neighbor.
They never helped anyone.
They were Selfish.
Never helped their family.
Ignores their children.
Is a drain on the church or society
What would we think of such a person.
You might say I could care less that he or she has died.
The world is better of without this individual.
But this is not the case for Tabitha.
When she died people missed her.
People mourned her.
The Widows that the deacons were elected to help earlier in Acts 6:1-15 they were the ones that were mourning her.
And why were they mourning her.
Apparently she was good with a needle and thread and she helped these widows by making them clothing.
The text says in verse 39
All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them.
Dorcas cared for the widows Dorcas cared for those that had no husband anymore that were all alone.
By making them garments.
And they were widows indeed.
They recieved help from the church.
That was the kind of person Dorcas was.
She helped those truly in need.
She loved her neighbor as herself.
Saints do we use the gifts or the abundance God has given us to help those in need?
those truly in need of course.
Not those who are lay abouts.
And not those who lead disordered lives.
And widows who had no husband and are older and live on the dependence of the church.
These are saints truly in need and Dorcas helped them.
So we can learn something from this dear sister in Christ Dorcas.
And people must know of the healing that just occured with Aeneas.
And they know that Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus When he was on the earth Before his crucifiction.
They know the prophet Elisha raised the Shunamites Son from the dead.
Just maybe Peter will come and do a miracle for our dear departed sister Dorcas.
The disciples heard that Peter was near by and sent two men to urge him to come and help.
They say to Peter please brother come without delay.
Are sister Dorcas is dead and she has been washed and laid in the upper room.
And there is nothing we can do.
Can you do something Peter.
Can you Resurrect her might have been going through their minds. why else would they call Peter.
Maybe he was going to preach at her funeral.
That Dorcas is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus.
Which would be accurate.
Absence from the Body is to be in the presence of the Lord.
So Peter went with the two men who take him to the upper room where Dorcas is lying dead.
She is not breathing.
The Widows are crying showing Peter the work of Dorcases hands.
The righteous works, the good works that she did for those in the church who were in need.
Peter sees them and hears them.
And then he puts them out of the room.
Does this story sound familiar,

verse 32-33 in our Old Testament Reading said something similar.

32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. 33 So he went in and shut the door behind the two of them and prayed to the Lord.
Elisha Prayed to the Lord.
and Peter does the same thing.
Verses 40-41

40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up

What did Peter do before she came back from the dead?
He prayed
He knelt down and prayed
He Prayed to God.
He Prayed to our Mediator the Lord Jesus Christ.
The only one who has the Power to rise someone from the dead.
You See the power of praying for things according to the will of God.
And it was the will of the Lord to breath life back into Dorcas.
And was this for the Saints and the Widows alone who are weeping for Dorcas.
No not only for them.
But for all those in Joppa who were dead.
All those in Joppa who were spiritually dead.
Who didn’t know the saving power of Jesus Christ which brings dead men and women back to life.
Christ which when he calls you while your dead in trespasses and sins to life.
Come forth.
Come to Life.
Serve me.
I am your Lord.
And this testimony did just this.
Many heard about the miracle of Aeneas.
Many heard about the miracle of Dorcas.
And according to verse 42 Many believed in the Lord.
You see Christ had some of his elect in Joppa
And he used this seeming tragic event of Dorcas dying.
She was dead but now shes alive.
Who can do this but God.
And who is the God Peter
The one true and Living God.
Yahweh One God in three Persons.
The Father that had called Dorcas from before the beginning of time.
The Son who redeemed her by his work on the Cross
And the Spirit that not only breathed life into her to wake her from death on the earth.
But spiritually awakened this dear Sister as well.
So our Sovereign God was not finished with Dorcas on this earth yet.
Because this is not the end of the story for Dorcas one day her body would give out again.
As one day youR BODIES will give out And you will die
and she would be laid to rest in the grave again.
As you will be laid to rest in the grave.
And would there be weeping yes those who loved her would mourn.
As those will mourn at your death if you lived a life as one who is a disciple of Christ like Dorcas.
But Dorcas did not weep when she passed from this life for the final time.
Becasue when she died she heard the words well done good and faithful servant enter into the rest of your Lord.
She was in the presence of Christ.
She was rejoicing .
She was redeemed.
She was one of Christs called out ones.
So brothers and sisters be encouraged.
Be uplifted by this healing of Brother Aeneas and Sister Dorcas.
Who not only gave hope to those in Lydda and Sharon and Joppa.
But now gives hope to all those here today who read these words and here this story
And no that they are a child of God
they are a called out one.
And death is not something they fear.
But it is something they embrace as only a transition from a life where they struggle with sin to
A life of sinless bliss worshiping and serving the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Jesus Christ.
Who offers Salvation in this life and the one to come.
Let us Pray.
