Knowing God, Knowing You

As we get deeper into this series of not Sinners. I want to introduce the verse that defines why we aren’t Sinners Saved by Grace. We understand that yes we were Saved by Grace. If you commited your life to Christ than your soul was bought through the blood that was shed and the sacrifice that was made on the cross, but understand this: You should only need to be saved once. There are times where people leave the fold and need to recommit their lives to Christ, but for the majority of us Salvation happens once.
If you go through the bible you will see Paul ask Numerous times, Did they receive Christ as Lord and Savior. If they did their salvation is longer a question. They recieved Christ. They recieved the Saving work that was done on the cross and enter into the process of Sanctification. We discussed sanctification, but for those who weren’t here sanctification is
The process in which sin patterns are removed in your life.
This process isn’t a one and done deal. You aren’t made perfect in one instance by saying one prayer. We will discuss later. The idea of Matthew 5:48 and the idea of perfection. but not today that will be a sermon for another day. Understand though the bible isn’t contradicting itself, but we must understand the verse in it’s original form, and in its original context to understand its full meaning.
But this morning I want to focus on why we aren’t sinners anymore. Understand this: Everyone sins. That’s why we have grace, but
There is a difference between purposeful sin and accidental sin.
And this marks the difference between the unsaved and the saved.
1 John 3:4–10 ESV
4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
This is a large chunk of scripture. But we need to understand it to understand our identity in Christ.
This verse is also VERY black and white and it draws a very distinct line between the Righteous and the Unrighteous. So first lets start in the middle:
Why did Jesus come to Earth?
To Destroy the works of the Devil
1 John 3:8 (ESV)
8...The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. So what is the Devils work?
We know the Devils Job is Death.
John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The work of the devil is to kill steal and destroy. He wants to kill your marriage. He wants to kill your soul, he wants to kill your blessing. He wants to destroy the work God has for you. He wants to steal your joy, your peace and your passions. This isn’t a secret, but somehow as a church we continue to let Satan do this every day of our life. We let him beat us down. We let him wear us out. We let him devour our calling.
Jesus came to give life and give it abundantly.
What does Abundantly mean? In the Greek it’s Perissos Which means: Extraordinary or Beyond the regular number or size.
Christ came to give you an amazing life and I believe it’s in this life and the next. We shouldn’t be waiting for the amazing life. If you are saved. If you received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Than YOU SHOULD BE LIVING AN AMAZING LIFE.
And if you’re not than you need to ask yourself why? Over the last several months things have been less than amazing. And I began to ask God why. And God has shown me some of the reasons as to why I have been struggling. And why I have been struggling is because I have let, through laziness and lack of taking authority, Satan to kill steal and destroy and I want to teach you how to take command over that portion of your life again.
If Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil than our victory allows us to
Point 2) Stop Sinning.
I haven’t really talked to Beth about it because of the craziness of life, but I will be addressing the worship team and every member who is in a leadership compacity to take a Spiritual inventory of their souls.
And I am going to ask one simple question:
If there is repeated and purposeful sin in your life I will be asking you take the initiative and stop, seek repentance, and come to my wife and myself if you need help or accountability OR to Step Down from your position. Here’s why: If the last 6 months has taught me anything it’s this:
We are in Serious Spiritual Warfare.
1 John 3:6 ESV
6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:8 ESV
8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
We aren’t Sinners saved by grace because when we are saved we enter a space of Sanctification where we begin the process of taking control over our sinful desires and refraining from doing them.
If we abide in God than
1 John 3:7 (ESV)
7 Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.
We aren’t sinners saved by Grace
WE ARE RIGHTEOUS
And those who are Righteous live Right lives. Live lives according to scripture. It doesn’t mean we don’t make mistakes. We do. That’s why we have continual grace. But it means we don’t sin on purpose.
The church is under Spiritual attack. Christians are under Spiritual attack and the only way to overcome this attack is remove ourselves from sin.
See sin is an open door to Satan and where there is an open door Satan will use it to wreak havoc.
Recently as I stated my open door was laziness. I got to tired and I haven’t continually set protections around the church and it’s people and my family. I was in the habit of continually praying Spiritual protect and removing demons and the fruit of the demonic from the church and as long as I did that we were growing. So God brought that to my attention and I will be and have been getting back to it.
But listen: We can’t continually Gossip and expect God to move.
We can’t have sexual sin in our lives and expect God to move.
We can’t hold back our tithes and expect God to move.
We can’t lie repeatedly and expect God to move.
And as a church we either need to align ourselves with the word of God or remove ourselves from positions of leadership and stopping the movement of God.
Not only did Jesus come to destroy sin. WE need to stop sinning, but God has given us the POWER to Stop sinning.
Point 3) The Power to Practice
Romans 6:12–13 ESV
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
You have the power to choose where you present yourself and to what you surrender yourself to. One of the phrases I hear all the time is I don’t want to trapped and told what to do, but just like your rights in America your freedom to do what ever you want is an illusion. You will either be a slave to sin or subject yourself to God.
You will either Submit to Debt Or Financial responsibility
You will either submit to your own sexual desires which lead to emotional attachments pregnancies and STD’s or submit yourself to Holiness.
You will either submit yourself to your anger and deal with the fall out or you will hold your tongue.
Understand there are both good and bad consequences no matter what your submit yourself to. It’s just the idea of what you will allow yourself to deal with.
But you are given authority over sin in your life.
