Faith vs The Law
23 Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. 27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.

23 Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed.
—> Prior to verse 23 Paul has been speaking about “The Law” already and the need for it, so he is continuing what he started in verse 19.
—> “Before faith” - before the coming of Christ and our ability to receive grace through faith in Christ Jesus
—> “we were imprisoned and guarded” - “guard watch over”
—> “until faith would be revealed” - until Jesus/Messiah would come
24 Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith.
—> “disciplinarian” —> a slave that was to —to protect and guard his charge, though that included responsibility to instruct in good manners, and to discipline and correct the youth when necessary.
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.
—> For now we have the Gospel, we don’t need the law to tell us what is right and wrong, how to worship, we have Christ Jesus, what we now call the Gospel to do that.
27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
