Mark 5:21–43 NKJV
21 Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him. 25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” 29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” 31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” 32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” 35 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” 40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. 43 But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
Today, we get celebrate a very special day. It is Father’s Day. It is a day we get to lift up all of the Fathers to God in thanks and celebration.
Being a dad is not only one of the biggest blessings in the world, but it is also one of the biggest responsibilities in the world. Whether you realize it or not, all men are called by God to be leaders within their families, but being a dad, means that you are not only a spiritual guide to your God given bride, but also to precious little ones in your homes.
We are lead by example, as we raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We are to teach them what obedience is by showing them what it looks like. If we are to be faithful leaders unto them, we must first be faithful followers of our Heavenly Father. As we follow our Father faithfully, we teach our children the importance of rules, obedience, the art of listening intently, and the importance of sacrifice.
As we look at the text today, we are going to see, “A Tale of Two Fathers”!!!
The AIM of the text today, is to show you what being a faithful father looks like.

Context

The text today is unique. Jesus did nothing without purpose. Everywhere He went, everything He said, and everything He did was with purpose.
The text is unique in how it brings two different people together, who have absolutely nothing in common with each other on the surface.
Jairus has a name (v. 22) and the woman does not (v. 25).
Jairus is a man (v. 22) and she is a woman (v. 25).
Jairus is a ruler of the synagogue (v. 22), but this woman has not entered a synagogue for 12 years (v. 25).
Jairus has a sudden need (v. 23), while this woman has been ill for 12 years (v. 25).
Jairus comes to Jesus face (v. 22), but this woman comes up behind Jesus (v. 27).
Jairus begs Jesus for help (v. 23), but this woman does not ask Jesus verbally for anything (v. 27).
When we start our reading, we see Jairus coming to Christ in desperation. In the process of meeting the need of Jairus, we are interrupted by a woman who also is desperate for a miracle in her life.
Only after Jesus meets her need, does He then return to His prior engagement, and continue the process of bringing blessing into Jairus’ life. Unfortunately, by the time Jesus is done, Jairus doesn’t need Him anymore, for his daughter is dead. Or so he thought.

Content

A Father’s Burden
The bond between a Father and his daughter.
The desperation he has for his daughter.
He is waiting for Jesus return from the other side of the lake (v. 21)
He is a ruler among the people, but yet he is prostrate before Jesus on his face (v. 22)
He continuously urges Jesus to follow Him (v. 35)
A Father’s Belief
He did all of this because he truly believed Jesus could heal his daughter (v. 23)
He listened to Jesus over his friends concerning his daughter (v. 35-36)
A Father’s Blessing
Though he may have given up on Jesus, Jesus did not give up on him (v. 35)
He got more than he bargained for (v. 41-42)
Instead of a healing, he got a resurrection (v. 41)
He also got a much needed cleansing in the process (v. 40)
A Father’s Burden
Just as we have a special bond with our children, God has a special bond with His children as well.
Jairus believed in Christ, but so did this other woman (v. 34)
Jairus had one daughter, but God has many children.
Sometimes, it can be difficult to wait on God’s provision while He gives it to others. Just remember that God can do anything; God loves you; God will not forget about you.
A Father’s Belief
We love God because He first loved us.
We believe in God, because He first believed in us.
A Father’s Blessing
God’s blessings do not always come in the form that we ask for them.
God’s timing is not our timing, and God knows what is best for us....and Him.
God’s blessings always come in a way that bring glory to His name.
