Text: I Corinthians 13:4
In the very first book of the Bible, Moses tells us the account of a young boy who is favored of his father Jacob.
As a result his ten older brothers hate him.
It is here we find the topic of Envy introduced into Scripture
There is no better example of jealousy than Joseph’s brothers, but there’s also no better picture of how destructive jealousy can be, and it all began when
but his brothers were outraged and said,
Part of the problem was that Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son as Jacob gave Joseph a coat of many colors, symbolic of his prominence in Jacob’s eyes, so as Joseph
Instead, Joseph is sold into slavery by his brothers, but much later, they would discover their jealousy, which was clearly sinful, turned out to do much good
The Brother’s envy
Because of his position
Because of his coat
Because of his dreams.
Dreams that told of his family bowing down in worship to Joseph.
Dreams that unbeknown to all of them would come true in the land of Egypt.
As you can imagine all of those
Envy keeps score.
Envy wants what another has.
Envy steals the soul.
Envy pushes farther than we thought possible.
Here is the issue…
Envy destroys everything for which Love stands.
