Romans 1:15–32 (KJV 1900)

So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Last night I showed you that there is gender distinction in our hair.

Is that the only distinction?

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Men and women were created different.

Gender is NOT socially constructed.

What we know now is that before a child is born, hormones begin to flood their brain, shaping them to be male or female.

God cares about how you dress!

Dress is one of the distinctions between man and woman that God set from the very beginning!

Deuteronomy 22:5 KJV 1900

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

From this scripture we have to draw the conclusion that God expects us to dress in a way that the genders are obvious.

Gender expressed in our outward appearance

Wear: something prepared, apparatus (as an implement, utensil, dress, vessel or weapon) armour, artillery, bag, carriage, furnish, furniture, instrument, jewel, that is made of, one from another, that which pertaineth, pot, sack, stuff, thing, tool, vessel, ware, weapon, whatsoever.

Pertaineth: same word as wear.

Woman’s garment: permutation of the feminine, dress, apparel, cloths, raiment

(permutation means alteration or transformation) ((dictionary.com))

In mathematics: the act of changing the order of the elements that have been arranged in a particular order (dictionary.com)

Literally translated = a man may not put on a woman’s garment, altered to be a man’s garment and a woman may not put on a man’s garment altered to be a woman’s garment

So, for a man to dress feminine or a woman to dress masculine is to change the particular order that God established!

This is called effeminate.

To dress without distinction is an abomination: physical repugnance, abhorrence

So who decides how a man or woman dresses?

God expects the culture to obey his word and set up boundaries and distinctions that clearly proclaim that this is the way a man looks and this is the way a woman looks.

Look at the civilizations of the world...

Sumerian civilization - 3000 BC

Who is the man and who is the woman?

Roman civilization - 625 BC to 476 AD

Who is the man and who is the woman?

Mongolian civilization - 1162 Genghis Khan

Who is the man and who is the woman?

Aztec civilization - 1300-1500

Scottish culture - Queen Joan Beaufort and James I- 1400s

WHO TOLD THE SUMERIANS, ROMANS, MONGOLIANS, AZTEC, SCOTS, IRISH, EUROPEANS, NATIVE AMERICANS (AND EVERY OTHER CULTURE) HOW TO DRESS?

SPANNING HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF YEARS…

THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN DISTINCTION BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN!

This has been the cultural norm going back as far as man recorded history!

It has only been in the last 100 years that a permutation of God’s order has taken place!

We are where we are, worshiping the creature more than the creator, changing what God has established from the beginning!

Today’s culture

I know you are not dumb, I went looking for pictures to prove a point - BUT WHERE AM I WRONG?

Who is the man and who is the woman?

The only way to know is to be close enough to tell by body shape or the amount of skin exposed

Another violation of Biblical principle.

The individual in the blue scarf, man or woman?

Purse and feminine necklace… look at eyes?

For that matter, is the other one male of female?

In every culture there are distinctions of gender, and we should honor that.

If in a culture it does not have distinction, than it must be established.

Western Society: Men wear pants, woman wear dress/skirt - has been that away for hundreds of years.

That is being broken down.

So is it ok?

Problem: the breaking down of gender barriers is about the destruction of the distinction between genders.

So it is an attack on God’s order.

Proof once and for all that it matters.

It don’t matter pastor if I as a woman wear pants in todays culture!

Or… my pants are women pants!

Really?

Then this don’t matter?

Why is this wrong but a woman in pants in not?

This is a skirt made for men!

This is wrong because society has not broke down to this level yet.

BUT there was a time in our nation when pants on a woman was as repulsive as a dress on a man today!

Timeline of acceptance for pants on women:

In the 1920’s women were not allowed on public transit or into restaurants in pants!

Pants had to look like skirts (called knickerbockers or bloomers)

WW2 cemented the idea of unisex clothing when they went to work in factories

By the 1960’s we were in full rebellion and not only was women wearing pants but little else.

Hilary Clinton broke the back of God’s order with her pant suits, until 1993 it was the rule that a woman could not wear pants on the US Senate floor

If something don’t happen we (society) will get to the place where we are as comfortable with a dress on a "men” as pants of a woman...

Society STILL believes this.

Which one is a man and which one is a woman?

How do we know?

The cultural norm is for a woman to wear a dress/skirt and man to wear pants.

Why should there be distinction?

It’s a witness to society - I am a man, I am a woman

Principle of authority or order

Obedience is required - never forced but a choice we make

Will you accept the role that God made for you?

Deuteronomy 22:5 is what God does not like and God does not change!

Makeup, jewelry - no place in scripture were it is associated to anything good, godly, pure or holy.

Only exception is when jewelry was given to Israel and God clearly intended for it to be used to finance their journey and the building of the tabernacle and set them up in the Promised Land.

Jewelry associated with pride in the bible.

If I was a woman, I would be ticked off at what society is telling you when they tell you you have to wear makeup and jewelry...

You’re not pretty as you are!

Why don’t they tell men that!
