Receiving
The baptism of the Holy Spirit was subsequent to belief
Book of Acts - Disciples; Samaritans, Promise Peter gave to those asking to do - Repent, baptized, shall receive the gift; Paul the Apostle; Church of Ephesus in 19
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!
Feast of Tabernacles - Jesus cried out
Sukooth - Feast of Booths - remembers God’s preservation of the nation in the wilderness
A miracle of God preserving them! There were many reminders
Live in thatched rooms with minimal roofs and the family lives in these rooms for a week. The can see the stars
At worship in the temple - priest with water jugs down to the pool of Silom and fill them and back up to the temple courtyard where the people were gathered. People singing and worshiping God. They would pour out the water on the ground reminding them of how God gave them water in the wilderness. They were dying of thirst in the wilderness! Get it?
On the last day day 8 no procession to the pool and no water poured out. It acknowledged Gods fulfilled promise
Land filed with Milk and Honey and now the could enjoy!
On that day - Jesus stands and cries out -
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!
Jesus was standing - according to culture - when a Rabi taught the pupil would sit - A harold would stand up and shout out the message!
Jesus was talking about the internal thirst!
Thirst was part of the life there
Man is a 3 fold being
Spirt - possessing a consciousness - living in a body
Body - Mind - Spirit
Living in sin the Spirit is dead - Life comes when born again by the Spirit
You can have physical thirst - emotional thirst - spiritual thirst
Our body need a certain amount of water to survive
When you body needs water it sends out signals for a drink!
Sociological drive - we need love! A drive for love
They discovered a child that does not experience the touch factor, within 6 months the child irreversible mental damage - even unto death
Need for security - to be needed -
The Spirit of every man a need for God
For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
The spirit is crying out to be connected to God
It is universal!
Jesus was referring to this part of man needing a deep relationship with God
We are interconnected body soul and spirt - one can total dominate or effect another
Sick - emotional stress - emotional stress leads to physical being
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: But a broken spirit drieth the bones.
There is healing power to it as well as the opposite - anger, grief, fear bring a negative response
What effects you spiritual will effect you emotionally - it is hard to separate! Is it emotional or Spiritual
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The integration is close but you cannot fill one need with a kind of the other!
Physical needs can’t be filled through emotional experience. Emotional needs can’t be filled by the physical experiences
Desert example - weak of thirst and exhaustion
Physically kids have been given everything but nothing emotionally! Needing a personal connection
Too much stuff!
Woman at the well
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
You’re going to thirst again!
Not satisfied by physical or emotional experience
So what is the answer? - Let him come unto Me!
He that drinks -
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Reference
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, And floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, And my blessing upon thine offspring:
The promise of God! MY SPIRIT
Out of his belly - Greek out of his belly there will gush torrents of living water - Not a stream but a deluge!
Notice John 7:39
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Notice the brackets, John is writing some 60 after the fact and now has the benefit of hindsight. Now he understands exactly what Jesus meant that day!
Clearly He was speaking of the Holy Spirit
Like a torrent of living water flowing out of your life
Many have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we know our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit in us, work of the Holy Spirit to conform us
This though is something flowing OUT of your life
Does this describe what is going on in your life?
Can you say yes?
Shouldn’t we seek the promise from God?
Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
The Spirit being released in your life
