Jesus Wins

1 Peter 3 18-22
Jesus suffered and died for sin
the just for the unjust
the righteous for the unrighteous
For the corruption that satan perpetrated on the humans
Jesus now sits on the throne of God sovereign over all
Jesus has destroyed Satan’s power
Jesus is in control over all
We have hope no matter what we are going through
there is no gloom so deep that the light of Jesus is there to comfort us
Read 4 1-6
Pray

Therefore

V 1 therefore because Jesus gave us the example
because Jesus has conquered
We have been saved
because of all of these things
because Christ suffered in the flesh
as a human
endured all of the temptations that we do
suffered humiliation, mocking,
suffered at the hands of His friend
he lived a life pleasing to the Father
He sacrificed His life for His bride
Therefore Equip yourselves
Jesus dies for sin and Yet we still indulge in it
The sin that put Him there
So
Hebrews 12:3 LEB
For consider the one who endured such hostility by sinners against himself, so that you will not grow weary in your souls and give up.
Dress for battle
put on the full armor of God
The same way of thinking
Romans 12:2 LEB
And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may approve what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.
be in prayer, and scripture so it can change your life
allow the Holy Spirit to have control over you
Romans 6 1-7
We have died with Jesus, sin no longer enslaves us
Sin no longer has control over us, we are free from it’s grip
Our goal should be to cease from sin
Equip your selves with this mind set

So That

V 2 Your desires change. from desiring to pleasing yourself to pleasing God
and doing what He wants
Jesus gave us this example in His life
culminating with the death on the cross
The Holy Spirit will begin to take away these desires
The Bible Exposition Commentary (Chapter Nine: The Rest of Your Time (1 Peter 4:1–11))
The will of God is not a burden that the Father places on us. Rather it is the divine enjoyment and enablement that makes all burdens light. The will of God comes from the heart of God and therefore is an expression of the love of God. We may not always understand what He is doing, but we know that He is doing what is best for us. We do not live on explanations; we live on promises.
V 3 Remember who you were
The time you were in the life of sin in sufficient
don’t go back to who you were
Peter gives examples of this prior lifestyle
People will think we have lost our mind
Mark 3:21 LEB
And when his family heard this, they went out to restrain him, for they were saying, “He has lost his mind!”
Acts 26:24 LEB
And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “You are out of your mind, Paul! Your great learning is driving you insane!”
the world does not understand us and hates us
V 4
But we need to be patient with them
understand that
they are not regenerated, they are blinded by satan, they are slaves to sin
And maybe it is you that God wants to demonstrate His love through
V 5 The unsaved may judge us but ultimately God will judge them
they are going to give an account
the one who is persecuting you now, will stand before God
Romans 6:23 (LEB)
For the compensation due sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Peter 2:23 LEB
who when he was reviled, did not revile in return; when suffering, he did not threaten, but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly,
Jesus sits on the throne with every living being under His sovereignty
And he will judge those who are persecuting you
So have hope, this suffering wont last forever
V 6 those who have died in by persecution
They recieved the Good news
They were regenerated
they have changed from being worldly to Godly
They were not understood by the world
They were hated by the world and suffered because of this
We need to be Christlike in all that we do and say and think
we need to remember our Savior who has saved us with His blood
we need to remember that this present world of persecution is a fleeting thing
Satan wants to help us take our eyes from Jesus
Don’t be like Peter walking on the water
Serve God for the glory of God
