Satiated

Matthew 5:6

• To be satiated means to be fed or gratified up to and beyond capacity – filled. Psalms 23:5 says, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” God, by the Holy Spirit, is wanting to create in you a hunger for something that you really do need, something you cannot live without—and that is to hunger and thirst after righteousness.

• Righteousness is not something you do or don’t do. Righteousness is a person, and His name is Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:30, “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” And, when somebody hungers and thirsts after righteousness, they are hungering and thirsting after Christ.

Here’s three ways you are to hunger and thirst for the Lord Jesus Christ:

I. Seek Jesus First and Foremost:

a. You should desire Christ above all else. In Matthew 6:32-33, Jesus has talked about food and material things, and then He says, “After all these things do the Gentiles seek … But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and”—what?—“his righteousness and all these things”—whatever you need—“shall be added unto you.” There’s nothing wrong with good food, nice clothes, a decent home, and car…in their place. But their place is not first place. “Seek ye”—what?—“FIRST”—“first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” God will not take second place to anybody or anything. Colossians 1:18, “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

II. Seek Jesus Fervently:

a. What does a person do when they’re really hungry and thirsty? FIRST, starvation – they look for something to eat. SECOND, determination – not only are they looking for food, but they are also determined to find it. It’s not a half-hearted search. THIRD, comes desperation. They’ll go anywhere; do anything, whatever it takes, whatever the cost! They have no pride. No shame. They don’t care what you think. They don’t care how they look. They only care about being filled!

III. Experience Jesus Continually:

a. Matthew 1:23 says, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” He hasn’t changed His Name! Seek Jesus first and foremost, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.” Seek Him fervently. Be determined to have Him. Get desperate for Him and you’ll experience Him continually—His Presence, His power, His Life: “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled!” Satiated!
