SCRIPTURE
Why is God’s name so majestic in all the earth.
Because He compassionately creates and recreates all things through Christ.
PSALM 8
OBSERVATION
BOOK ENDS/Inclusio: Begins and ends the same way.
Point to everything in the middle
Wonder, Glory, Weakness, Glory, Weakness, Wonder.
God, Humanity,
God works through the weak things of the world to display His power
God is both far and near. And yet mindful of you! EVEN YOU.
Humanity is crowned with glory and responsibility.
APPLICATION
There is something unique about God’s name…

1. Take a step back, get perspective… Meditate on who God is.

TAKEN BACK BY THIS GOOD GRACE LOVING GOD.
Oh Lord our Lord
Psalm 8:1 NIV
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.
Psalm 8:1 (CSBSB:N): This language distinguishes God from his creation (he is transcendent) but also shows that he is present (he is immanent) within it.
Psalm 8:2 NIV
Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
THE WONDER OF WEAKNESS in Contrast to God’s Power. The enemies, the foe’s through weakness I bring down the world.
Get perspective. Let’s be reminded that they are a blessing…
The moon and the stars- to step back
The breaking of the dawn.
When the storms roll through do you recognize how small you are.
Psalm 8:3 NIV
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
Psalm 8:4 NIV
what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
What is HUMAN.
Back— Why is this happening.
What about those times you thought you were strong until you got the diagnosis.
WHO AM I?
WHO AM I THAT YOU ARE MINDFUL OF ME
CARED, I CARE, AND I WILL CARE FOR YOU.
Why is His name so great? Because He Compassionately creates and recreates…
He See’s you and He Cares.

2. Step into the Gospel reflection. (Angled Mirror)

6-8 Harkens back to Gen 1,
Psalm 8:6–8 NIV
You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
REPRESENT ME… God has written me into the story.
Right back to v4, WHO AM I, WHO IS Mankind?
WHO AM I TO
Hebrews 2:6–9 NIV
But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor and put everything under their feet.”,  In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them. But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
The writer of Hebrews meditates on Psalm 8, Who is mankind? We don’t deserve this recognition, but there is one who represented God well! JESUS!
What you and I could not fulfill Jesus steps in our place.
YOU ARE MINE.
Colossians 1:15–23 NIV
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
PRAYER

3. Return to worship.

A life reflecting the beauty of the gospel, the beauty of God’s glory is bookended by worship. A life in the angled mirror begins and ends with wonder of God.
Why is God’s name so majestic?
THE GRACE IS EMPTY BUT THE THRONE IS NOT!
1. Step Back, look up.
2. Look up, take the step back. Be reminded… he goes from infinite to intimate just like that.
3. Live fully, LIFE IS ONLY FOUND IN HIM. WE ARE CALLED TO REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITY.
4. WORSHIP HIS NAME
