Intro

Blessed are the Poor In Spirit, Theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are those who recognize their inadequacy. Those who understand their shortcomings. Those who recognize they are not enough. Those who understand their need for Christ.
But today my friends we need to understand as well that knowing you have a need is not enough. you must mourn over those needs. It it not typically in knowledge alone that we make change. You have people nationwide wide who smoke for instance don’t exercise. They know it isn’t healthy, but until that knowledge is transfered into emotion, very rarely will things change.
It is often said that when people lives are collapsing that they might need to hit rock bottom before they change. You ever heard that? Why do we as humans require rock bottom? The Gospel screams. Turn! turn! Stop! Repent! Don’t do that! But we don’t hear it until everything is destroyed! Why?
What do people who have rock bottom say? So and so told me? so and so warned me. But i didn’t listen.
Knowledge alone will not bring you to salvation. It cannot. It will not. That is why Jesus said do not cast your pearls before swine.
They do not have a knowledge problem. They have a heart problem!
This morning we are going to turn this a little bit
Matthew 5:4 NIV
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Knowledge about Jesus isn’t enough!

The Pharisees knew great things. Their understand of the word was phenomenal and they thought that their knowledge and wisdom would carry them to God. But we learned when Jesus was speaking with them He referred to them as
Matthew 12:34 NIV
You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Matthew 23:33 NIV
“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?
So here are these “godly men”, full of knowledge, but mere knowing is never enough.
There are millions of people walking around with knowledge on good ethics, an even Christianity.
The pharisees knew of the messiah, but they did not know the messiah.
People may believe Jesus is God. But do you know Jesus? Or do they simply know of him?
My friends today I remind you that it isn’t what you know, It is who you know!
James 2:19 NIV
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
If it isn’t enough to merely understand that we are poor in Spirit, or that we need to be poor in Spirit, that is not what Jesus saying.
He is says you cannot simply have knowledge of your poverty of Spirit. You can’t simply understand your need for Him, we must be brought to the place where by which this knowledge gives way to conviction. It gives way to sadness. To brokenness
It is the Poor Spirit, those who understand their need for Christ, but it is also those who are yes, poor in Spirit, but are also convicted by their poverty of Spirit that are moved towards God.
Psalm 34:18 NIV
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

The brokenhearted are the ones who will be comforted by God.

You see when Jesus said Blessed are those who mourn, He isn’t talking about us having a bad day. He is talking about crying for the things God cries for. He is not talking about mourning because you are unhappy, but over the world lost and dying and going to Hell.
He is talking about about the millions of orphans in this country who have no family.
He is talking about crying over the fact that you and are lukewarm and do not care.
Crying over the fact that visitors come into this house lonely and broken and leave without anyone saying hello.
Crying over the children who are in our kids church who are hearing the Gospel.
Crying over the family divisions in our community.
Crying over our neighbors are dying and going to Hell while we sit silent.
He is saying when you are broken over the things that drove me to the cross. Then my power will fall. Then my presence will rise and I will come.
Blessed are those who see their need for the savior and who hearts break over that situation.

Blessed are those who cry for things God cries for.

We are Going to prepare to take communion this morning.
It is the broken things of this world that Jesus came to rescue.
It is the broken people that He came to rescue.
WE don’t like to be broken. It is weak. Especially for guys.
Hey I’m weak. That doesn’t make the christian T shirts.
But when you and I cry for what put Jesus on that Cross. His power will fall.
So are you broken today? Notice I’m not saying, are you sinning? We all Sin. Are you and I broken over that Sin? Or have we just accepted it?
Luke 22:19 NIV
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
Pray over the Bread
Luke 22:20 NIV
In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
Pray over the Cup
It is time we as a church broke over the things that break Gods heart.
“Lord let my heart break with yours”
