Matthew 15:25 KJV (WS)
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Are you disappointed in what God seems to be doing for you?
Do you feel God is not answering your prayers very well and that you are not getting much of His blessing.
If that is your case then our text will help you, for it shows how a woman got the blessing from Christ in spite of great problems.
THE PERSISTENCY OF THE WOMAN
“Then came she.”
We would have expected to read that ‘then she went back home.’
But this woman was persistent about getting God’s blessing and would not be detoured from her quest easily.
She had opposition and plenty of it.
Christ seem to turn a deaf ear to her plea for help, and the disciples complained the women was bothering them, still she came.
If you want something from God you will have to be persistent in obtaining it.
Many do not get much from God because they are not persistent enough to fight off a bit of opposition.
We must remember that when we want God’s blessing, there will be opposition to our obtaining these blessings.
If you want them you will have to evidence that you want them enough to not be deterred by opposition.
THE PIETY OF THE WOMAN
“Worshipped him.”
There are three things about the worshipping by this woman that helped her to gain the blessing.
• When she worshipped.
“Then.” In spite or her circumstances she still worshipped.
Many today do not show up to worship God at church on Sunday for the flimsiest of excuses. But this woman worshipped even though she had problems and even though it looked like God would not help her.
• Who she worshipped.
The woman worshipped Jesus, not the pastor, nor the priest, nor Mary, nor some idol.
If your want the Lord to do something for you, you had better give Him reverence. Using His holy name in profanity is not worship and will get you nothing.
• Where she worshipped.
The woman worshipped the Lord in public before those who scorned her, in spite of Christians who would not help her.
Folk need to remember it is Christ not the pastor, or the church building that we worship, when you leave a church over a trivial issue and cease to worship, you will not get much from the Lord.
THE PRAYER OF THE WOMAN
“Lord, help me.” If you want a productive prayer life you need to show it by your persistency and piety.
• The rightness of the prayer.
This woman prayed a wise pray.
As a small grade-school boy, I learned this lesson from my first pastor.
I thought you had to pray a more ‘religious’ prayer for help, but all you need to do is ask God for help anywhere
Psalm 46:1 KJV (WS)
To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
• The requirement for the prayer.
The woman got help (her prayer answered) for she was persistent and worshipped.
