Reading of the Text:
Matthew 28 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.4 And the guards quaked from fear of him and became like dead men.5 And the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.6 He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and report to My brothers to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.”11 Now while they were on their way, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.12 And when they had assembled with the elders and took counsel together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’14 And if this is heard before the governor, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.”15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
16 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Behold, the Word of God. Let’s Pray.

Argumentation:

The Importance of the Resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15:1-26. Now I make known to you, brothers, the gospel which I proclaimed as good news to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I proclaimed to you as good news, unless you believed for nothing.3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep.7 After that, He appeared to James, then to all the apostles,8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised.14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we bore witness against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.24 Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.

First Importance. v. 3-4

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Evidences of the Resurrection: v. 5-8.

5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep.7 After that, He appeared to James, then to all the apostles,8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.

If Christ Has Not Been Raised. v. 14-19

14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we bore witness against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.

Our Preaching is in Vain.

We are false witnesses of God, testifying against God.

Our faith is worthless.

We are Still in our sins.

The dead are merely dead.

We are most to be pitied.

Since Christ Has Been Raised. v. 20-26

20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.24 Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.

The List of Negatives is Reversed.

Our Preaching is fruitful. We are true witnesses of God. Our faith is worth more than gold. We are no longer in our sins. The believing dead are truly alive with Christ. We are most blessed!

Christ is the first fruits of the final resurrection.

Eternal Life.

All other authority will be abolished.

He will reign until His enemies are His footstool.

Death itself will be defeated.

The Kingdom will be consummated and established forever.

Summary: Because Christ is raised, we have hope here and in eternity!

The Cover-up: V. 11-15

Matthew 28:11-15 Now while they were on their way, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.12 And when they had assembled with the elders and took counsel together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’14 And if this is heard before the governor, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.”15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
Explanation:

The guards go to the chief priests. v 11

Now while they were on their way, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.

The Priests come up with the lie. Tell the people the disciples stole His body. v 12-13

12 And when they had assembled with the elders and took counsel together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’

The Priests Keep the guards alive. v 14-15

14 And if this is heard before the governor, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.”15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
Argumentation:

There are those who will never believe.

The Priests heard Jesus prophesy His resurrection. They set guards because of the prophesy.

They have undeniable proof Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be, yet they still refuse to believe.

It isn’t about evidence. It’s about the work of the Sprit on hard hearts.

But for the grace of God, there go I.

The Great Commission: V. 16-20

Matthew 28:16-20 But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Explanation:

This is the close of the Gospel of Matthew.

It began by connecting Jesus with David through the genealogy. (14, 14, 14; the number of David.)

Matthew 1:17 Therefore all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.

It ends by the direct fulfilment of Psalm 2:6-12.

Psalm 2:6-12 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
7 “I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’”
10 So now, O kings, show insight;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh with fear
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Jesus says He has all authority. v. 18.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

In Heaven.

On Earth.

Jesus is THE King.

Therefore.

The Disciples of Christ are to go disciple the Nations.

How is a nation discipled?

Baptize them.

Teach them to observe all Christ Has Commanded.

Christ promises to be with them.

Argumentation:

This command extends to all disciples of Christ.

We must take this literally.

Christ still Has all authority.

Because of this, we are to disciple the nations.

Transition:

Application: All of Christ for All of Lead.

We must work to accomplish the great commission right where we are.

Our church cannot disciple all of America.

Our church is to disciple Lead, SD.

Step One: Christ is King.

Step Two: Disciple Lead, SD.

Step Two A. Share the Gospel.

Step Two B: Sharpen in the Gospel.

Step Three: Baptize Them.

Step Four: Teach them to obey all of Jesus’ Commands.

Step Five: We are not alone: Christ is with us.

Step One: Christ is King.

Our City needs to be discipled.

We cannot neglect this command.

This is not a hopeless command. (Christ is with us.)

Our Mission as a church is to declare all of Christ for all of Lead.

All of Christ: Christ has all authority, over every area of Lead. Christ is the only hope for Lead. We proclaim all of Christ’s authority and Christ’s message, leaving nothing out.

All of Lead: The message and authority of Christ applies to all of Lead. Every person, business, activity, ect. Every square in of Lead and all within belongs to Christ.

This is not my job, this is our job.

I long to be the guide and the sending point. I participate, plan, aim, equip, send, and strengthen.

We are to accomplish this working together. All of us striving.

Our goal is to someday say, “Christ has all authority, and Lead, SD, has been discipled for the glory of God.”

The Mission of Connection Church Lead is to accomplish the great commission in Lead, SD.

We declare all of Christ, for all of Lead.
