I’m Saved, Now What?

What has Paul already established?

Ephesians 1 - Blessings we have in Christ

- Chosen in Him
- Made us holy and blameless
- Adopted us as children
- Accepted in the beloved - Redeemed
- Forgiveness
- The riches of His grace
- Inheritance
- Made to be the praise unto His glory
- Sealed by the Spirit

Ephesians 2 - New life we have in Christ

- Ephesians 2:10 (KJV 1900)
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
- Ephesians 2:19–22 (KJV 1900)
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Ephesians 3 - Paul’s purpose towards the saints

1. Ephesians 3:7–8 (KJV 1900) - Paul was gifted to preach Christ to the gentiles
Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
2. Paul’s prayer for the saints (14-21)
Strengthened by the Spirit
Christ’s dwelling through faith
Rooted and grounded in love
Know the love of God
Filled up in all fullness of God

Paul pivots to the application of the truths of Ch. 1-3

Ephesians 4:1-16

A. Paul’s plea is for the church to walk worthy of their calling (4:1)

Ephesians 4:1 (KJV 1900)
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
What is this calling?
2:10 - Created unto Good works
2:19-20 - Built together for a habitation of God
I will build my church (Matt 16:18)
1 Thess 2:11-12

B. The Manner to walk worthy of their calling (4:2-6)

Ephesians 4:2–3 (KJV 1900)
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
The Attitude needed in the church to live out this calling (2-3)
- Lowliness: humility
- Meekness: gentleness
- Longsuffering: patience
- Forbearing: tolerating in love
- Endeavouring: with diligence to preserve unity
- There is one (unity of everything) (4-6)
Body, Spirit, Lord, Faith, Baptism, God

C. The Gifting to walk worthy of their calling (4:7-16)

Ephesians 4:7–8 (KJV 1900)
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

A. He Grace to each one of us to live out this calling (7-10)

gifts are based off of Christ’s gift (effectiveness?)
When He ascended (quotes Psa 68:18, but actually changes its from God receiving to Christ giving)
Why this change? Psalm looks forward to the coming victory. Ephesians looks back and what Christ received He is giving out (general giving spoils to soldiers)
Descent and Ascent of Christ in Phil 2:6-11
He captivated the captives Col 2:13-15
He gave gifts to men
Grace was given according to Christ’s Gift
The gift of the Salvation (Eph 2:8)
Romans 12:4–6 (KJV 1900)
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

B. He gave leaders to live out this calling (11)

Ephesians 4:11 KJV 1900
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

C. Purpose of these gifts (12-13)

Ephesians 4:12–13 (KJV 1900)
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Perfecting =Equipping the saints
—> for the work of the ministry
—> to Build up
—> the body of Christ
—> in Unity
of faith
of Knowledge of the Son of God
—> in Maturity
—> Towards the measure and stature of Christ

D. Result of these gifts (14-16)

Ephesians 4:14–15 (KJV 1900)
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
To grow out of immaturity
To be built on truth to stand against apostasy
To grow into the maturity (completion?) of Christ
Ephesians 4:16 (KJV 1900)
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Every part is working together
Seeking to grow the body
Seeking to building up the body

How do you know when you are using your gifting?

Everyone in the church is using their ability to promote the growth of one another in truth towards Christ-likeness = Walking Worthy of your Calling
