Have you ever tried to sneak around someone and get away with it?

Point: My conscience weighed on me, I wasn’t fully free to enjoy myself, I was distracted, I wasn’t ultimately happy.
Point of the verses: FULL FORGIVENSSS + NOTHING HIDDEN = REAL JOY
NOT —> Sneaking around in deceit and sinning.

ILL “The weight of the world on your shoulders!”
POV: God opposes secret sins, you may dull your conscience, but we all know when we are doing something we shouldn’t and we all deal with the guilt in different ways. but the best way is what Paul goes to in vs. 5
Vs. 5 The Path to Joy: Acknowleding all our sin! (3 words for sin, 3 words for confession) 1 RESULT!
Vs. 5 The Path to Joy: Acknowleding all our sin! (3 words for sin, 3 words for confession) 1 RESULT!

Story: My dad and the soccer ball/light.
POV: WE confess, God Forgives —> He’s so loving, king, generous he forgives all our sin! Because of Christ, this is possible!
Gospel / App: If Jesus didn’t take away the emnity this wouldn’t be possible! Rejoice that we have such assurances of forgivness because of Christ!
Vs. 6 - 7Who is listening? : Time is short, find forgiveness now! find an ark of grace or a flood of judgement.
Vs. 6 - 7Who is listening? : Time is short, find forgiveness now! find an ark of grace or a flood of judgement.
It’s ok to not be sure where you’re at, but don’t take it lightly. Think. Pray. Read. The psalmist wanrs us there is a time where we may find refuge in God, but that time is coming to an end! So will you listen, will you hear?
3 encouragements:
hiding place
preserve from trouble
deliverance
Have you ever had someone fight for you, advocate for you, defend you? What is it feel like to have someone on your side?
How awesome is it that if we go to God and confess our sins, he not only forgives us but he protects us, defends us and delivers us!
God’s desire is not boring obedience! But Radical love!
Vs. 8 - 11: Wisdom for the Way: Don’t be like a studdorn animal - turn to God, confess your sins, and rejoice!
Vs. 8 - 11: Wisdom for the Way: Don’t be like a studdorn animal - turn to God, confess your sins, and rejoice!
The Psalmist turns to teach us in vs. 8
Vs. 9 he warns us not to be like a stubborn animal
ILL: Golden Retreiver being stubborn and lazy.
Hear the cimparison in vs. 10 and 11
Vs. 10 the wick are sorroful but the steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
What does that actually look like?
God cares for us, provides for us, sustains us, gives us grace, strengthens us, encourages us, cares for us.
This is a real thing, not just romanticized feelings.
Vs. 11: a call to Joyful Exuberance!
Be glad, Rejoice, Short for joy!!!
WHY????
Be glad in YHWH - we ahve foriveness, no shame, no guilt, no pain!
This is the glory of Christianity!
Our confidence is not in what we do but what God has done and who he is!
The forgiveness of God is our joy, our hope our life! Without it we are no different than any other religion!
How come we don’t feel blessed and joyful?
We are too focused on the things of this world:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
We haven’t grasped the glory of our forgiveness
realize what we deserve
realize what we’re given
Trust and beleive that you are forgiven
Don’t let the devil keep you in guilt!
How can we rejoice more?
Fill your mind and heart with the gospel - through the Word, through music, through Christian friends and relationships, through the church!
Talk to others about our sin and struggles and emotions and our spiritual life, let them challenge and encourage you!
So What is Happiness?
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”
True Happiness:
Knowinng God with a clear conscience in a personal union with Christ!
