Psalm 139
Psalm 139
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
The World Today
in all its wisdom, the world has one thought concerning the life of a human
strong warning: I do not intend to parrot the world view
what I will say today will offend the world’s position
I am firmly of the belief that God created you and me from before we were conceived
new life begins at conception with God being foundational in all respect
Roe vs Wade
there was a Supreme Court in USA decision yesterday
they took the constitutional right for women to have abortions
abortion is not banned as each of the 51 states can now choose
nearly half the states will creates laws to limit abortion
Supreme Court
“Abortion presents a profound moral question,” read the court ruling. “The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey (a 1992 decision that reaffirmed federal abortion rights) arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
what does the bible say
Video: 9 months in the Womb
Role of God
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
God is at the very start
the very being of who we are starts in the womb
God is the ultimate designer of life
there is no role for the mother in the development of who we are
yes the mother nurtures and sustains the life
yet the cell upon cell, muscle upon muscle
The Wonder of New Life
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
response of David must be our response
I will praise God for he made me
made me fearfully and wonderfully
what God has made is wonderful
let us not be caught up in the imperfections that our eyes see
my very being knows I am wonderfully made
I am not a mistake - you are not a mistake
you are fearfully and wonderfully made
Not a Random Thought or Mistake
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
deep inside the womb we do not know the divine processes involved
we have been fearfully and wonderfully made
God is involved in every intricate development, in every little miracle
new life is a miracle - we must praise God for that
it is the right of any man or woman to destroy this miracle
Ordained Days
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
as God made so he mapped out our lives
lives meant to be full of promise and destiny and purpose
people, sin , the world and the devil conspire to work against the divine plan
restoring our love for Jesus takes us back to the original plan
God has placed a value on us that does not diminish from conception to eternity
Our Response to God
How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
our response to God should be extraordinary
this is not just a freak of nature or an accident
God thoughts are vast in number and all good
there is not one bad thought toward any one of us
All of Eternity
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
too many thoughts to count
David speaking of God’s great favour to each one of us
there is the wonder of his being - declared a few verses earlier
yet the immensity is overwhelming
Final statement
when I awake - I am still with you
in my resurrection - I am still with you
from the physical to the spiritual God is with us
a great big faithful promise to live by
I am fearfully and wonderfully made
I will not be shackled by guilt, by shame, by regret, by sin
I am made by God and my days are ordained
