Outside of Salvation where Christ dies for us in order that we might be saved through faith in the person and work of Christ on our behalf, is the event that at the point of being born again we receive as our permanent companion and mentor the third person of Godhead, who indwells the soul of every Church age believer.
He is not a lesser being but one who is equal with the Father and God the Son and it is He who is sent to us to empower our spiritual lives, convict us when we are walking in disobedience, teaches us all things even the deep things of God, trains us in the ways of Royalty as we are the Sons of the living God in Christ.
Our Success in reaching the objective of the spiritual life, that is spiritual maturity, the fullness of Christ, is solely dependent upon our complete surrender to our mentor and teacher which is the Holy Spirit.
The title of this Sermon is the Royal Family
The theme of this sermon is to enlighten the Christian to who he and she is in Christ as royal family to God in order to come to understand the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives.
Opening Hymn: Come fount of every blessing.
And remain standing for the opening prayer.
The Rebellion
The Rebellion did not start with Man. It started with Satan in eternity past. The prince of the God haters is the author of confusion up to this very day. The rebellion in this world is the work of Satan.
It was in Satan’s exercise of choice to bring man down from the lofty place that God had placed man when God made Man ruler over this earth.
Sin brought man into Satan’s rebellion and put man in the chains and into the slave market of sin. The evil in this world is orchestrated on one level by man, yes. But there is a far more powerful and sinister agency at work, than us and those names that we hear spoken by the media, who are but Satan’s willing accomplices.
And while we might not think that God is at work because of the current condition of the world, it is not God who is on the ropes. it is Satan who is trying to hold back the invading light that is disrupting his own work and reversing everything that the evil one has worked so hard to accomplish.
When Adam was lured into sin against God, Adam became accountable to God and did and does suffer the consequences and at that moment of sin, Satan and his minions filled the void of rulership that man had left open.
At that point, man is taken in as captive and placed into the slave market of sin.
Note this. When a nation was conquered there were those who from the conquered nation who were tortured and killed while those who were let alive became slaves to the conquering nation.
When Satan won his victory man became his slave. Some joyously and others grudgingly but none the less slaves.
John 12:31 (NASB95) — 31 “Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
John 16:11 (NASB95) — 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NASB95) — 4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Ephesians 2:2 (NASB95) — 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
1. What is the origin of the rebellion?
2. What role did man have in God’s creation?
3. What verse describes man’s role?
4. Who became the ruler of the dominion after the fall of Adam?
The Spiritual Reset
History is moving forward. What God had purposed from the beginning is being reinstated.
Everything that Satan, the Lord of this dark world was seeking to accomplish, is being reversed and by the time that the Lord is through, there will not be a single accomplishment that Satan can brag about while spending 1000 years in the Abyss and then forever in the lake of fire.
The reversal began with the Lord’s victory at the cross, and his resurrection. It was throughout the Tanakh (Old Testament) history the stage.
Jesus had accomplished that which Adam had failed to do. The first Adam had but one test of His loyalty to God His creator. Jesus the Last Adam the reinstated ruler, had much that he had to overcome to succeed in the Father’s will. And He did victoriously.
Hebrews 4:15 (NASB95) — 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Philippians 2:8 (NASB95) — 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Romans 5:19 (NASB95) — 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
Point of Doctrine:
1. Victory is found in allegiance to God.
2. Allegiance to God is demonstrated by obedience to God.
John 4:34 (NASB95) — 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.
It was after the baptism and the wilderness testing, that the Lord began to call his disciples.
A disciple is a learner. There are tiers of learners. There are those disciples who are casual learners, taking in the milk of God’s word but never really coming to a workable knowledge (epignosis) of the truth. There is the adolescent learner, Learning and growing as one goes through life and is occupied with the details of life. and then there were those who are dedicated followers of Jesus, those whose lives are centered around God’s word in the pursuit of the Kingdom and God’s righteousness (Matthew 6:33). To them life is about learning and growing and coming to live by God’s word. Jesus’ inner core abandoned everything to follow Jesus.
1. When did the great reset begin?
2. What is the term for the Old Testiment?
3. Who is the last Adam?
4. How is victory won within the spiritual life of the Christian?
5. What did Jesus say was his food in John 4:34
The 12 Disciples
These were the 12. These were those whom Jesus spent an entire night to pray for prior to choosing them to be His disciples. (Mark 3:13)
Jesus did not just choose the 12 to be His students or followers but chose them to be receive delegated leadership and those who will become Apostles who will lay the foundations of the Church. They would be The Lord’s earthly leadership council; A council of kings you might say.
Not that the Lord needs a council, but he chooses to have one and more than one as he also has a heavenly council. (Psalm 82:1;1 Kings 22:20-23)
Matthew 19:28 (NASB95) — 28 And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
What about Judas?
Well, He did not follow in the regeneration, did he?
Paul on the other hand will.
1. Defined Disciples
2. How many disciples who were on the mount will rule over the tribes of Israel?
3. Who will not be included as a future ruler?
4. God choses to have an earthly council where else can we find that God has a council?
The giving of the Holy Spirit
To these 12, The Lord will breathe upon the 11 His spirit, given them the credentials that set them apart prior to the day of Pentecost. Among other things the Holy Spirit will impower the 11 for intense needed prayer up to the day of Pentecost.
John 20:22 (NASB95) — 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
There emerges a pattern here of all who rule within the administration of the Lord.
Prior to Jesus, the ancestral Father, King David was given the Holy Spirit.
1 Samuel 16:13 (NASB95) — 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
David will be resurrected and will have a future rulership role during the Millennial reign of Christ when the Lord’s earthly Kingdom is finally established.
Jeremiah 30:9 (NASB95) — 9 ‘But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
Ezekiel 34:23–24 (NASB95) — 23 “Then I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd. 24 “And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the Lord have spoken.
Yes, Jesus will rule over Israel and the world but here is a promise that it is David who will sit on the Throne in Jerusalem.
Ezekiel 37:24 (NASB95) — 24 “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them.
Ever wanted to meet with and talk with King David.
How funny is it that there are those skeptics that say that David was only a Mystical Character? Well, When King David returns, he can deny that rumor himself.
David indwelt with the Holy Spirit will rule
Jesus indwelt with the Holy Spirit will rule
The Apostles indwelt with the Holy Spirit will rule
1. Where did the Disciples receive power prior to Pentecost?
2. Who else in the bible received the Holy Spirit?
3. With Yeshua being the world ruler who will be resurrected and sit on his own throne in Israel?
The Royal Family of God
Who else will receive the Holy Spirit and will fill rulership positions?
The Church age believer.
Acts 2:1–4 (NASB95) — 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NASB95) — 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Right after Jesus had chosen and called his inner core and those that will sit on 12 thrones (Judas will be fired, Paul will take that 12ththrone.) Jesus descended from the mount to a level place and delivered the sermon on the mount which is speaking to the future residence of the Kingdom to come. (Matthew 5 and Luke 6:17-19)
(see worship call 0676 Friday lesson and Mondays lesson to learn what the Kingdom of Heaven is)
What is the Church age believer that he should be given a rulership function within the kingdom?
It has to do with sonship.
To be born again, one enters into the family of God. The church Age believer shares in the Sonship of Christ within the Ruling Family Dynasty.
In the ancient world, rulers were not generally elected by the people. When a king came to the throne, it was not just the king but his family. It was considered that the Son of the King would continue the rule after his Father.
It is the sons of God who the Lord will grant positions of rulership.
Even with the angels.
The Son’s of God are the angels who held authority positions over the original creation. God made these particular spiritual beings to be a part of His Family and into the Dynastic rulership over creation.
Job 1:6 (NASB95) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
Job 38:7 (NASB95) — 7 When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
In Genesis Chapter 6 we find that there were not just any old angels that took on human wives in the angelic rebellion (Genesis 6:1-4), but it was those who were in the positions of divine delegated authority; the sons of God.
When one who is a “son of Disobedience” that we all formally were (Ephesians 2:1-2), when we are born again, we are born into the Royal family of God into a ruling dynasty into the ruling family of God.
Ephesians 1:3–5 (NASB95) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
(don’t feel left out ladies, Son’s used in the masculine Gender refers to both male and female as it is that there is not racial sexual or social distinction in the body of Christ. (Galatians 3:28)
1. What does it mean to be a son of God?
2. What category of beings were said to be God’s sons?
3. In Job 1 who presented themselves before God?
Adoption into the Royal Family
IN the time of the Caesars, during the Roman empire, it was the practice of the emperors that the rule would fall upon the first born son of the Emperor after his death. But it was sometimes the case that when there were no sons or the current emperor did not think that his natural born son was responsible enough, the emperor would adopt another who would be given all the rights and privledge as a son to take the responsibility.
When Paul speaks of adoption that is what is in his thinking and the thinking of others in that time.
You and I have been adopted into a ruling class or dynasty and will have delegated rule in the future over the established kingdom.
But to whom much is given much is expected. And just because you might call yourself a Christian and even a disciple, remember that not all disciples were those who would be brought into the Lord’s inner circle.
And while there were many spiritual beings that we like to call angels, they were not all Son’s of God as far as rulership status.
IN the sermon on the mount who is it that would be called the Sons of God?
Matthew 5:9 (NASB95) — 9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
We will cover this verse coming up in our study of the sermon on the Mount during our “Worship Call” morning study.
1. IN the letter to the Ephesians what does Paul mean by the term adoption in light of ancient practice?
2. According to Matthew 5:9 who are called the Sons of God?
The Need for a Royal trainer
Is every professing born again believer a Peace Maker?
Does not seem to be, that is if they have truly been saved?
It seems at this point in my discernment as a pastor and as a student under a very good reputable teacher, that there will be those who are born again believers, who possess eternal life and will never lose it, there will be in heaven and through eternity those who will qualify to be Sons of God functioning rule within the family. Responsible heirs to the throne.
Psalm 15:1–5 (NASB95) — 1 O Lord, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? 2 He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart. 3 He does not slander with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor takes up a reproach against his friend; 4 In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honors those who fear the Lord; He swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5 He does not put out his money at interest, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.
Revelation 2:26–28 (NASB95) — 26 ‘He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations; 27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.
Revelation 3:21 (NASB95) — 21 ‘He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Revelation 20:4 (NASB95) — 4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Note that out of many disciples the Lord chose only 12 as his inner circle and rulership council.
This will be the same with the Church, there will only be those selected from the body of Christ who will be about the Business of the Lord in ruling over His earthly administration.
There will be more to say about Revelation 20:4 and the future rule of his faithful ones.
The Church’s rulership function will extend on into eternity with the rule over the angels
1 Corinthians 6:3 (NASB95) — 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?
As Christ was made lower than the angels as a man and was exalted to the throne of God over the angels, so shall we the Church follow in the same pattern.
What is then this current life about as the church age believer will be the future rulers of the Kingdom and head over angels?
The Lord is removing Satan’s rule and his administration and replacing it with His own loyal representatives.
And those who will rule with Christ are being groomed for that position. We are in the kingly training course being molded for future rulership positions in the kingdom and on into eternity.
Being also flesh we have no earthly talent or skill or wisdom that we can bring into God’s plan for us. What do any of us know about functioning within the Royal family of God?
We are as Solomon when He prayed to Yahweh.
1 Kings 3:6–9 (NASB95) — 6 Then Solomon said, “You have shown great lovingkindness to Your servant David my father, according as he walked before You in truth and righteousness and uprightness of heart toward You; and You have reserved for him this great lovingkindness, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 “Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 “Your servant is in the midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people who are too many to be numbered or counted. 9 “So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
Every talent every skill all the wisdom not a smidgin of it will come for our corrupted flesh but all of it will come from above and that begins with our trainer and our mentor to guides each of us and trains us in the ways of royalty and that is the holy Spirit of God.
1. Does every born-again believer have a ruling position in eternity?
2. What did King Solomon do first when he was made King after his father?
3. What is that the Church age believer will rule over in the eternal state?
4. Who or what must we depend upon if we are to achieve the objective of Maturity in Christ and rule with Him in eternity?
