Introduction:
To properly understand the text we should remember that in the East the roofs of the houses were usually flat.
In fine weather, the inhabitants would resort to these flat roofs to breathe the fresh air, to enjoy a fine prospect, or to witness any event in the neighborhood.
These roofs were used as places for drying flax.
Rahab took the spies to the roof of her house and hid them under the flax.
In the evening, the roof was a place of resort.
David was walking on the roof of his house when he fell into temptation that led to his great sin.
Peter went upon the housetop to pray when he had that remarkable vision that led to the opening of the door of salvation to the Gentile world.
God ordered a battlement built around the roof to protect human life.
