What can you do when you know that you have been living right but now you have been hit by a storm
If we can check in this room right now, what kind of storms are people going through at the moment
Mark 4:35–38 NKJV
On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Storms can happen to people who are simply obeying what God has said
It was Jesus Idea to go to the other side - He was incharge of the Journey
It was Jesus who had told them what to do
When the storm started beating they were very scared as they know what damage was eminent
They were in the storm because Jesus had said it and they trusted that as long as they are with the miracle worker they were ok
Mark 4:39–41 NKJV
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
When Storms happen- they reveal to us where we are in our faith
How is it that you have no faith, why are you soo afraid?
This people were fishermen who understood the weather
They understood the eminent danger - verse 37 -The boats were already filling
You may be in a storm right now that is very familier to you and your boat is almost filling
You may have experience the outcome of such storms in the past through other people etc
Jesus did not rebuke the desciples but took the opportunity to demonstrate his power and authority
It is In the storm that God reaveals his power and authority
THEN HE AROSE
May God arise in your storm
HE REBUKED THE STORM
There is no storm that he is not able to rebuke
THERE WAS GREAT CALM
When God takes over your situation the result is great calm
It is through the storms of life that we get to know God in a whole new way
Verse 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Although they had walked with him this far, they had not known him in this way
They had knowm him as a healer - But not a master of the wind and the sea
You may have known God in one way, but He is just about to reveal another side of himself that you did not know
Matthew 14:22–33 NKJV
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
In this particulat storm, Jesus was not in the boat, but the descilples were doing what he had said - go to the other side .
It may appear as if He is not in the boat, but as long as you have his word no storm can ever stop your progress.
The waves may toss you as much as the devil wants to but God is just about to show up
Psalm 138:2 NKJV
I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
Many times it is in your darkest hour that God will surprise you
verse 25-Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
God will ride on your adversity to reach you
Sometimes the storms of life can be soo servere, making us so fearful that all we are expecting is disaster
Verse 26 they were troubled saying it is a ghost”
