STOP ALLOWING THE OLD YOU TO BIND THE NEW YOU

HEBREWS 12-

I. UNDERSTAND THE OLD SELF TALK

A. CHAIN FASTENER # 1: No One UNDERSTANDS

1. Breaking the Chain: Run the Race Knowing that OTHERS Have Been Where You Are and CONQUERED

Hebrews 12:1 ESV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Set Your Soul Towards Jesus

Looking to Him

Hebrews 12:2 ESV
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Considering Him

Hebrews 12:3 ESV
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
Hebrews 12:4 ESV
In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

C. Chain Fastener #3: I PROFESSED CHRIST So I Am In

a. Breaking the chain:
Understand the true meaning of struggle
Hebrews 12:7 ESV
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
in times of affliction, says the author, keep in mind that all your setbacks come from God; he is training you in godliness and has accepted you as sons. The adversities you encounter are blessings in disguise, for behind your difficulties stands a loving Father who is giving you what is best. God’s children, then, must always look beyond their trials and realize that God himself is at work in their lives[1]
· Understand that the discipline is not giving into sin, but the testing of the faith
o Hebrews 2:18
o Every temptation+ test:

§ Will you Choose Me
